So lets get back to the question at hand. Only 1 NCC player makes any of the 3 teams. Where is Lyles or Randle? How about Grosser?

Does this still work the same way that you have to be nominated by your coach?

Lyles (a Sr.) was in the mix with a very good group of forwards. Randle (a Jr.) missed a number of games with injury and the NCC schedule may not have exposed him to enough coaches - he'll anchor the NCC defense again next year. Joel Grosser (a Jr.) started JV and backed up Anderson in goal most of the year, as well as getting time in the field. This was Joel's first year playing goal for NCC and from what I've seen he's doing a nice job. I think he's the presumptive starter for next fall and should keep developing nicely (there is some track record of pretty good Grosser keepers, but Joel is his own man).

And yes. Your coach has to nominate you.

So JOAT, you are upset/confused because the starting JV goalie wasn't named to one of the All Region VARSITY teams?

No, not upset or confused in any manner. Was thinking that there was a Grosser playing Keeper at NCC and that Anderson was playing on the field this year. Did not see any games. Simply going with names I recognized being talked about in other threads, namely Lyles and Randle

I forgot you are late to the party.....sorry.....

Be careful....NCC has had some nefarious, but very entertaining representatives on here this year.....So you may have heard the ramblings of those folks.....

Unbelievable, you admit you did not see any games, yet you actually question why only one NCC player was named to the NKY All Region teams. I think I may have heard it all now.

This is one of the HUGE problems with these ALL Region teams, way, way to many names are thrown out there based on "reputation" alone and/or because some think just because a kid plays for this school he must be good, etc.

Reputation is one reason so many Seniors get named, coaches have heard their name for 2, 3, sometimes 4 years and think, "well they must be good", when in some cases it is not justified.

I could give a rat's you know what about who is or who is not on the teams. Simply asking a few questions based upon information that has been talked about on here ad nauseum. Heard the Randle kid was one of the better defenders in the area this year and I know that Lyles was amongst the leading goal scorers and was a Senior by the way. Just trying to have some discussion and not trying to say someone should or should not have been on the all region teams as selected by the COACHES.

My point is I don't understand how anyone can make an argument or question why any player did not make one of these teams that has admitted they have NOT seen the player(s) play one game. Again this is the problem, you "based upon information that has been talked about on here ad nauseum."

BGP may well be one of the most nonobjective sources. IMO there is no replacement for watching a player with you own eyes against top level competition when evaluating who should be given the honor of being on one of these All Regional teams.

I think both of these players deserved consideration, I also think that the majority of the times that most of the NCC players were mentioned on BGP it was by one individual. I believe if this person had their way, the OPOY, DPOY and COY would have been from NCC and they would have also had another handful of players on the First Team.

My point is that I was simply asking questions to spur conversation, nothing more nothing less. Really not sure why you are so offended unless of course, aw nevermind.

Your were successful in spurring a conversation.

I'm not offended, simply disappointed in how system works (in some cases every year voting is based more on reputation, not actual play) and the result is some good kids every year wind up not getting the recognition they deserve.

And what I assume the reason you speculate I'm "offended" is incorrect, I do not have a horse in the race.

Don't forget about PC......inclusiveness.....let's try to get one kid from each team when possible......instead of looking at player performance only

Would agree with you on the system seemingly being flawed. First of all, each coach can only nominate 5 kids from their team and if they choose to nominate 0 then those kids have no chance of being recognized. Would agree that it is difficult for coaches to pick teams since they only see these opponents once maybe twice a year. Agree 100% that name recognition and reputation from 'club' soccer go a long way in determining kids that may or may not make one of these teams.

Odds are however that those kids that have success at the club level are more than likely worthy of being on the first or second teams. The hope is that the others are recognized for their play during the season to at least garner 3rd team or honorable mention at the very least.

Still believe there is a solution/fix to the system but it will likely never happen for a couple of reasons. One know one cares enough and two, the coaches don't want to give up their authority on this issue.

My suggestion is to have 5 members from each school vote, and you can not vote for any player from your school. The five voting members are the Varsity head coach, JV head coach, Freshman head coach, AD and one non disclosed parent chosen by the varsity head coach. Players are not nominated, every varsity player is eligible. There is no back room debate, no let me stand up and argue my player is most deserving, no back room deals, you vote for my player, I'll vote for yours.

Each voter must submit his votes in a sealed envelope post marked by a certain date and opened in front of all the coaches. Each voter MUST vote for 5 players in each category, listing the players 1-5. IMO the more voters… the more eyes, the more opinions you get, the more accurate the selections are.

I think reputation, and longevity, carry a lot of weight when it comes to these awards. I'm not saying it is not a good thing the coaches are doing, it takes a lot of time and effort on their part and it is appreciated.... the dinner and match they have is a nice touch. I just think the system is not geared towards always picking the best, or most deserving players.

JOAT... Why do you say a coach can only nominate 5 players from their team?
