Lexington Catholic 6 Beechwood 4

I still don't understand how the KHSAA justifies the advantage given to the Wednesday teams over the Thursday teams. LC was able to use 2 pitchers that pitched in game 1. BW had to go with their #3.

If the the starting pitchers from the Wed. game and the Thursday game both pitch one pitch into the 6th inning, the Thursday pitcher is done for the tourney while the Wednesday pitcher could still come in and pitch on Saturday.

Either get rid of the "rest" rules for the tourney or change the way the games are scheduled.

So you want all the Sweet 16 Basketball Games played at the same time too so that every player will have the same amount of rest? They knew the circumstances going in.

Apples and hand grenades. It has nothing to do with getting rest, he's not legally allowed to pitch. The Sweet 16 doesn't make you sit your center if he's played too many quarters. Personally, I'm not sure I'd make a kid do that but it depends on the circumstance.

Knowing the circumstances going in means nothing.

It is a completely ridiculous way of deciding a state championship IMO.

None of the teams lost a game to put themselves in a bad draw situation.

Anyone with common sense can see that it is simply not an equitable situation. This is completely unlike a team traveling long distance to a road game, or a fatique factor due to time between games.

I have no connection with any team(s) involved - I just would like to see a balanced situation for all the kids

You must not understand how basketball is played vs the impact of not having your #1 pitcher on the mound.

Neither do I. I'd post the exact same thing should the situations had been reversed.

By the way, that would be "sense" Baseballguy. Beechwood had the option to pull Curley with the big lead against PRP and save him for the Championship game. The bottom line is you need 3 pitchers to get you the Title. Beechwood had that and then some, it just wasn't meant to be. No one needs to blame them losing the Championship on whether they played Wednesday or Thursday. Catholic pulled their pitcher and saved him. It all depends on the matchups.

If that's your best argument, you only prove my point. You're asking the coach to pull his best starting pitcher after 2 innings against one of the top teams in the state.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I present to you Supporting Evidence #1.

There is no question that the top-bracket survivor has an edge in the championship game. Christian County used it to their advantage in 2004.

I don't know that you can attribute much of Lexington Catholic's edge to the draw, though. Fahs only pitched an inning or two in the quarterfinals. The Knights clearly were saving him for the final.

I;d have to agree, Beechwood;s major flaw was that they were not ALLOWED to pitch any of there best. They try so hard to make sure all teams have equal days rest in district, and regional games and it surprises me they dont do the same in this situation. I think the state personally needs to rethink the baseball brackets in general.

I feel they need to have the Semi-State as a 1 and out. Then you coukd use the final 8 teams from that to be devised into best of 3 series'. These games could be played at numerous athletic facilities in the state. IE: Champion Window's Field in Florence, Applebee's Park, University of Kentucky, the River Bat's Stadium, etc. With teh champion ship series also being played in one of those establishments, perhaps on a rotating schedule so that one venue would host one year, another the next, and another the next. Doing so would

A: draw in more revenue from the 3 game series since Im sure they would have bigger crowds than semi-state.

AND

B: Eliminate the idea that Lexington schools ALWAYS have an advantage in the tournament, if they rotated venues if a team plays in a championship close to home it;s just good luck.

In many ways it just seems more fair, and more fun that way. I would personally love to see BW, and Lex Cath play in a 3 game series, IU thing every game would be as exciting as the one was Saturday Night.

Congrats to Lexington Catholic on a State Championship. JD

Congrats to Bob Myerhoff, coaches, players and fans. What a super year you all put together. This is one season I think Beechwood has waited on for a long time. Keep your heads up high as you have presented yourselves that Northern Kentucky is a power in baseball and for years to come. My congrats again and especially to the out going Seniors I wish you all well in your future endeavors. JD
