High school coverage is next to nothing for all sports these days. They choose where the interest is. The facts are more fans attend freshman football games than attend varsity soccer. I will take a guess and say there were more fans at the Highlands -Campbell County freshman game last Friday than any varsity soccer game in N. Ky. this year. But please educate me if I am wrong. How many attended this state quarterfinal game?

 

1,441 was the announced attendance of Trinity-CovCath from Saturday night at Henry Clay.

 

In my area NO freshman football game outdoes boys varsity soccer. Even many girls' varsity soccer games has student sections (usually male athletes, but still).

 

I've happened to catch freshman football games going on at the main stadium (many soccer teams in my area have their own soccer-only stadiums) and the varsity attendance dwarfs freshman football numbers.

 

Of course, even baseball, softball and volleyball draw well in my area.

Thanks to the CJ for their coverage of the game last night. Almost 1500 attendance on a chilly, drizzly night, an hour or so away from the campus of both schools on Halloween night is a good showing. While I'm sure a freshman football game in the same circumstances would have drawn even bigger numbers, we do appreciate the attention paid to such a minor game.

Sorry to take this thread down the path it has gone. My first post on the topic was a response to whining about lack of media coverage because it wasn't football. My point is soccer is not going to get the same level of coverage as football, or basketball, and the coverage for those sports isn't all that good these days either. Soccer is the "junior" sport. Growing a lot in interest but still the junior sport. Nothing wrong with begging for more coverage but don't act like there is some conspiracy or incompetence because the coverage isn't what you want. If the sport and interest keeps growing like it has, the coverage will come. I won't post anymore on this topic in this thread. Sorry again for the interruption. And I will be rooting for CCH in their next match and I hope to read about it in the media.

My point was that those who come to this forum in general, and this thread in particular, care about the players and the game. Let's not gripe about perceived injustice (1400+ is a great crowd, and we all know the media coverage stinks for HS sports).

 

I, and I'm sure the players/parents, would like to hear about the game (strategy, coaching decisions, great plays, key plays, turning points, etc). That's all.

Quite funny how you write "The facts are" in your first sentence, then in the very next sentence you write, "I will take a guess".

You still have not posted any facts, the actual attendance of the HHS/CC freshman football game. Yet there have been two post listing the attendance at two of the soccer matches mentioned on here.

700 specters attended the soccer match on October 26.

1441 specters attended the soccer match on October 31.

After watching these two teams play at CovCath earlier in the year, and the way Trinity dominated play in the 2nd half of that game, I did think the Rocks would win this one. I'm thrilled to have been wrong, which should go without saying.

But I thought CovCath was no good because they couldn't finish? As I said earlier in the postseason, it is all about surviving and advancing. Nitpicking is unnecessary.

Not sure I'd agree that Trinity dominated the second half although they did clearly have the better of the play. As I said earlier, I was confident CCH would be OK in the rematch given that they'd only played 12 players in the first game, heat was a factor and they were without one of their best players.

 

Game is over and I think the better team won so now, hopefully the boys forget about it as well and focus on the next task at hand. I think it may be tough for them to refocus so let's hope the coaches can get them to do that.

So tell me who and when and where football was even mentioned......except in your mentality......my comment was that there isn't media coverage in NKY for soccer. A round burnt orange ball isn't a football.......right? And the only reason I mentioned BBall was it is also round and full of air, unlike a baseball or softball..

 

 

And it was an awesome game........ but to compare it to CCHS / HHS frosh football game's attendance you would need to move the game 1.5 hours away and see who shows up .......this soccer game was played in Lexington and one team was from Louisville and one was from Park Hills and they had over 1400 in attendance (reported by KHSAA)
