I believe there is something embedded in the logic that prevents this from happening.... probably an extra "alligator mouth" in the code linked to Trinity.

I will take a guess and say there were more fans at the Highlands -Campbell County freshman game last Friday than any varsity soccer game in N. Ky. this year. But please educate me if I am wrong. How many attended this state quarterfinal game?

Congratulations to the Colonels! I always like seeing N. Ky. teams have success. The more trophies in N. Ky. the better. Good luck on finishing this and bringing the big trophy home.

I would "take a guess" and disagree with this (bolded) sentence. The crowd at the CCH Vs Cooper Region 9 semi final on Thursday evening attracted a large crowd. And the Region 9 finals on a very wet, very windy Saturday late afternoon had about the same size (large) crowd.

Don't know the attendance of the CCH Vs Trinity State Qt final last night, but it was a good size crowd. And take into effect both teams' supporters had to travel an hour+, admission was $10, and it was Halloween night. For whatever it is worth many feel a strong bond to the kiddies and staying home to make sure they get their fair share of treats.

My "guess" all 3 of these soccer games mentioned above had a larger crowd then the HHS Vs CC freshman football game.

 

I do agree the local press coverage of HS sports is embarrassing, but then again their coverage of all news is embarrassing, so they are at least consistent.

If you are implying or stating that there was more area wide or statewide interest in the freshman football game between HHS and Campbell County than in the varsity match last night that is probably one of the dumbest statements I've ever read on BGP.

Where did you find these "facts"?

 

Like gpr mentioned, there have been some good crowds in recent weeks, all of which were much larger than what I have seen at freshman football games. I also attended two JV football matches recently, neither had a crowd that was any larger than what I normally see at a HS soccer match during the regular season.

 

In some cases they might have more at a freshman football game but not always the case. I would also say that I do not think it is a good comparison. With over twice as many kids on the football squads you are probably talking about twice as many parents, grandparents, etc.... in attendance.

There are more players and therefore parents on the Frosh football teams .......on the CCH side of the stands last night I would anticipate over 200 + with fans, students....add about the same amount on the Trinity side.....then throw in those fans in the end zone. ....someone help me verify but I would guess 500+ Easy for one of the 8 games that occurred yesterday with boys and girls ....

Agree with YC. I did a quick check, CCH freshman football roster list 34 players, (have no idea is this is average, large or small roster size for freshman football).

CCH Varsity soccer list 27 (larger then average). Using just one school as an example.

 

Freshman football 34 players x 2 teams = 68 players x 3.5 supporters per player (2 parents, one sibling, .5 grandparent per player) = 238 spectators per game.

 

Varsity soccer, 27 players x 2 teams = 54 players x 3.5 supporters per player = 189 spectators per game.

 

AS YC says, roster size alone provides football with an advantage. Still be surprised to learn on average freshman football games attract a larger crowd then most varsity soccer matches.

The "half" supporter from our family always starts trouble.

I understand the sensitivity of soccer fans. It is tough being the junior sport on the block and trying to build interest. Plus I am sure all of the ardent supporters on here are fanatical about supporting their kids and their sport. But if you think soccer is going to get more attention than football or basketball in the media you are dooming yourself to a lot of discontent. That is the point I am making.

 

As to the attendance comment I made, I would love to see someone post the numbers. How many people attended Highlands / Campbell County freshman football game? How many people attended the best attended boys varsity soccer game in Northern Kentucky this season? I may be wrong. There may have been 500 more people at the soccer game. That is what I am curious to know.

If sensitivity equals calling someone out for stating "facts" that are nothing more than perceptions, than call me the sensitive type VOR.

Yes, yellowcard, I will grant you I should not have so quickly stated my supposition in my first post as facts. However, until someone refutes it I am going to stick by my guess that more people attend freshman football than varsity soccer. If someone else can follow charliefleet's lead and show me the error of my guess, I will apologetically admit I stand corrected.

VOR......you also would have to comPare the 700 plus at Montgomery County va CCH game to a football game 1 hour and 45 minutes away from NKY. HHS vs Campbell doesn't count because both are local.....

.....lastly, if you still refer to soccer as the "junior" sport, you are actually showing your age a little . It isn't the same as it was in the 80's when i played.......it has more players locally and worldwide than any other....
