I will agree that they are closer than people think. The last 3 or 4 teams seems to always be close. It's also hard to tell when you haven't seen teams play how strong some teams are or are not.

 

Your a smart man. Truth is, like you mentioned, when you haven't seen all of them play, its damn near impossible to decide whose best.

 

I raised some questions about SW earlier, but none of the SW guys seem to want to respond to those. Personally I think the top 3 are about even.

Look at the second paragraph of post #20. Then look at the entire post #22. Those are real questions I have. I'm curious about SW's offense, all I hear is about their defense. It's a serious question, nothing more, but somehow it went unnoticed between the other posts about who played the toughest schedule, lol.

I don't have a SOS, I was just looking at records on the khsaa site, as was the other poster. To my knowledge the khsaa does not have a SOS rating. Anyone that does I would take their rating with a grain of salt, considering it likely comes from people that have never seen 90% of the teams they are rating play a single game.

South lost 3 years ago to Paducha Tilghman 8-7 in the semi finals. That game was played in a strong wind and rain. PT scored 2 field goals with the wind to their backs and got a controversial safety call. South had a chance kicking into the wind as time expired from about 25 yards out but wind pushed it into the upright. The rain and wind played havoc and eliminated all passing game and both teams ended up stacking the box.

 

Last year in semi finals agains Louisville central the final was 14 to 16 with the difference again being a safety call. South was up 14-0 quickly then central made adjustments and scored 16 before half and neither team moved the ball in the second half. South did have some costly turnovers at the wrong time some of them deep in centrals territory and frustration began to set in. In addition last year's team was young and excelled better than most thought or predicted.

 

The 2013 team was heavily Sr led who has all played for 3 years from the time the program started. Last year had a lot of new faces who had a lot of talent and have continued to get better for this year their Sr year.

 

Keep in mind this only Souths 5th year for playing varsity football. 2011 they went 4-9, 2012 they went 9-4, 2013 they went 11-2 last year 13-1 and are 9-0 for 2015. Each year they have continued to improve

 

In 2013 I would say their offense wasn't as good as the past two years but since smith took over as head coach last year the offense has continued to improve and they have continued to develope different sets an d opportunities out of their offense.

Great offensive games pass run mix etc.

 

Central Hardin 24-3 injuries in that game many QB played till 3rd with high ankle sprain no passing game after his injury just running the ball in the back field.

 

North Hardin 21-0 QB did not play as well as some others no passing game only running.

 

Franklin Simpson 27-0 QB played but was taped up no mobility and went I believe 1-9 or O for 9 passing.

 

After off week everyone was back and healthy passing game returned and mixing up returned.

Warren Central 38-0

 

Averaging 36.5 points per game.

Averaging 258 yards rushing per game and 87 passing yards per game.

 

I will say because of the running clocks coach smith has been pulling his starters as soon as it starts running and he has done a great job of mixing it up between many players so individual stats are down.

 

It's really hard to say their offense is as dominate as their defense but it's not far behind the quick games to running clocks and exceptional special team play has kept offensive stats down.

 

As you can see when they are healthy the scoring average is up but when a key player goes down the stats suffer as in the middle of the season.

But they seem to struggle when they become more one-dimensional. One thing has been evident as well, and that is that they are at least three touchdowns better when they're starting quarterback is healthy. His ability to run and pass the ball Is essential to their success.

Thanks double take. I've been curious all season whether they have a powerhouse offence or not. I had heard all season about how great their defense is, but a great defense can only carry a team so far. Sounds like an interesting playoff matchup if they end up meeting JC or Ashland either one in BG.
