Original rankings are very similar to what my preseason rankings will likely look like...I'd go with the following:

1. Covcath

2. Cooper

3. Holmes

4. Newport (Assuming Mullins is eligible...Drop to 5 if not)

5. Newcath

6. Holy Cross

7. Conner

8. Ryle

9. St Henry

10. Dixie Heights

1. Cole VonHandorf- Covcath

2. Ben Weyer- Newcath

3. Sean McNeil- Cooper

4. Markel McClendon- Holmes

5. Ethan Snapp- Newport

6. Adam Goetz- St Henry

7. Andy Flood- Covcath

I'd swap Cooper & Holmes. And put Lloyd in at #10 instead of Ryle. I'd also swap Goetz & McClendon, Goetz is top 5. I agree with the rankings for the most part tho.

What else does Cooper have other than McNeil?

And what does NCC have to go with Weyer?

Cooper has, IMO, the best 1 through 3 in the region with Hendrix, Kunkel, and McNeil. I know a coach or two might not agree with me on that but that trio is going to be REALLY good this year. Biggest problem with them is they have no size which will force McNeil (6'4-6'5) to play in the post defensively, out of necessity.

Newcath won the JV championship last year and while that doesn't always translate to varsity success, they have one of the best sophomores in the area in Brennan Hall as well as a Pangallo (Stevie) that should see minutes and get better as the season progresses. Eric Anderson started last year but Newcath doesn't have much varsity experience due to how deep the past two senior classes were with talent.

i think it is clear that the bottom five maybe six may be interchangeable. Biggest questions for bottom 5 to move up are:

1)who can help Adam Goetz at SH

2)can Hunter Myer and Ian Brolley from Dixie step up and dominate games. i think Myer started approx 20 games for dixie last year and brolley transferred from holmes.

3) Can connor develop and inside presence.

4) Ryle will play hard.

5) Can Holy Cross play defense when they are not hitting? the Schrand boys and Bezold can shoot.

NCC has some young talent around weyer. I expect Weyer to get doubled almost every game which will allow others to step up. I expect Brennan hall to explode this year! Very nice player

I agree. Brennan Hall and Steven Pangallo will develop this year as a really really good backcourt.

Highlands has to at least crack the top 10

Not saying they should not but give some reasons why they should.

I agree... One thing you can give Ryle, win or lose is that they play hard for their coach! I'm looking for these young men to turn a few heads.

Glad to see CCH finally getting some seemingly universal preseason love (key word preseason, for the last 3-4 years they have never been higher than 3 on most polls.

I've heard really really good things about Cooper, so I'd have them at 2 or even 1B possibly.

I am looking forward to seeing Brolley play. Last time I saw him he was a frosh. Nice game as I recall.

1. CovCath

2. Cooper

3. Newcath

4. Holmes

5-10. Day-to-Day

Its a crapshoot at Highlands. You just dont know when those kids will suit up and get in basketball shape. I do think they can beat some of the bottom 5 schools though.

How many footballers will be playing basketball for Highlands this season?

Biggest problem with them is they have no size which will force McNeil (6'4-6'5) to play in the post defensively' date=' out of necessity.[/quote'] I don't follow HS basketball nearly as closely as you do, but didn't most of the bigs graduate last year? It doesn't seem like there are too many post players in the top 10, except for Weyer who is tall but not a post player. Correct?

Assuming so, seems like McNeil will be fine defending the post.

No dominant post players that I can think of.

Is Walters really 6'10" now?

I had Covcath preseason #2 last year behind Newcath.

The year before, I think I had them at #3 behind Newcath and Holmes.

The Colonels haven't come in preseason #1 over the past few years because, while they eventually had the best team, they had more question marks than Holmes and Newcath entering the season.

Covcath, IMO, wasn't the most talented team in any of those years.....but they did play the best team basketball, executed at both ends of the floor, and played with a confidence that was matched by very few teams around the state which is a huge credit to Scott and his staff. They also develop their players as well as any other program around the state. See kids like Cooper Theobald and Mark Schult as perfect examples.
