Ryle High School Censors Pro-Life Club

Let me be clear and this has been my stance 100% of the time during my tenure here on BGP.

I could give a DAMN what your stance is. 100% irrelevant. Don't care.

All I'm EVER interested in is the "why." You are so vague that no one knows the answer to that question.

So I'm not looking for anything other than the logic used. If you don't want to give that then don't post.

Don't hold your breath with him Clyde....

Heck, he may have a great point. I just can't figure out what that point is.

I'm getting a sense from Twotoplace post that he is hinting a separation of church and state for a pro-life group.

Am I correct ?

As some have said I'd have to see all the flyers for all clubs before I'm upset. But if any fell out of the guidelines of the post it then the student has a legitimate complaint.

I also don't think any reasonable person would have a problem with any of the flyers I've seen posted. But if the policy is consistent I have no beef.

Despite Boone County's conservative and religious base, this is a public school, not CovCath South.

I get the feeling that the student in the photograph is being used as a pawn by Tea Party types in Boone County, who want to close the gap between church and state.

Just give up Clyde, this is an up hill battle that just keeps going and going and going......

However, I always enjoy my "back n forth" with Twotoplace.

The fact that Ryle is a public school is reason enough.

But, to amplify, what's guiding the Ryle principal is a desire to maintain a quality learning environment at the school. Perhaps he foresees the placement of controversial placards spurring a counter-reaction from pro-choice students at the school, and then he's got a bonafide brouhaha on his hands.

For what it's worth, courts have been consistent that, at least on the high school level, the learning environment trumps youthful "free speech." If the youngster's parents find this objectionable, then perhaps they should enroll him in one of the many religious-based high schools in Northern Kentucky, some of which place crosses on their lawns to protest current abortion laws.

I think Clyde has sufficiently asked you to clarify, so I won't beat that horse as you obviously want to remain obtuse...I will assist you in this clarification:

The schools you refer to do not put up the crosses to "protest current abortion laws", they put the crosses up to bring awareness to the number of abortions being performed and send a message that life is sacred....at least get it right if you plan on disparaging...

Even people like FKYW who are very pro choice do not see an issue with the rejected flyers.

I am having a very hard time figuring out what is wrong with them. I could see if they had a fetus on them, but they don't.

All clubs that are not driven by hate are allowed to belong in any school, you have that Christian athletes club (I forget the name) at a good number of schools, they don't go around shaming people into joining, and I don't think this club does either.

As others have pointed out, I don't care who is representing the kid and his club, any lawyer is going to see a case like this and come running and do it pro bono. As was pointed out, the ACLU, who I agree with at times, does the same thing, I recall them representing the a HS club in the Ashland area that supported gay students. I had no issue with them either.

Semantics. They want to raise awareness so people will pressure lawmakers to outlaw abortion.

No question the Catholic church wants Roe V Wade overturned but first and foremost they are recognizing that life is sacred.

And I have no issue with that. But let's not go acting like the two are independent of one another the way BirdBrain did.

Semantics. They want to raise awareness so people will pressure lawmakers to outlaw abortion.

Or maybe they want to raise awareness to educate people who are contemplating abortion that all life is precious. It's all about perspective.

I was told tonight by a teacher at Ryle that every piece of paper that is affixed to a school wall has to get the seal of approval from the principal's office. I think it's safe to say the pro-life club isn't the first extra-curricular organization to get a rejection slip.

Article already said that.

Article already said that.

By teacher at Ryle he means the article we all read.

Semantics. They want to raise awareness so people will pressure lawmakers to outlaw abortion.

Not semantics, semantics are just words....actions such as these are not semantics, they are committments...big difference.
