Quiet_Storm11 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Henry Clay called timeout with one second to play and walked off the field refusing to shake hands. Classless act by Sam Simpson. Not surprised with the final. Lots of talent in Lexington but no defense or discipline. Look for SC to make another deep run into playoffs
RLM33W Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Scott County won by a large margin, but what worries me about this score is the fact that they gave 35 pts up. Out of the 4 games HC has lost they scored the most on SC, with several starters out. SC better tighten up on defense.

Sam Simpson is as good a man as I've ever known. Did Scott Co run it up? Leave the starters in until the end? Flee-flicker?

Not surprised with the final. Lots of talent in Lexington but no defense or discipline. Look for SC to make another deep run into playoffs I am big on sportsmanship and think it is so very important in sports. Especially at the high school level. I was surprised to see Coach Simpson take the timeout with 1.1 seconds left, but I am going to defend Sam on this one. I think Coach McKee does a nice job coaching up his Scott County Cardinals. The fact they are defending state 6A champions and undefeated in Kentucky this season speaks to the job he does. But....his antics at tonight's game makes him look foolish. He spends half his time out on the field with his wireless headset. He calls a timeout on 2nd down with the ball on the Henry Clay 1 yard line while up three or four touchdowns. He walks all the way out on the field and into the huddle near the goal line and then slowing walked back to his sideline and watched the next play while standing at least 15 yards on the field. He puts in some of his reserve players late in the fourth quarter for one or two plays (up four touchdowns), and then pulls the entire 11 players and replaces them with starters and tries a reverse pass. I know he and Coach Simpson have never exchanged Christmas cards, but Sam had seen enough of his antics and I can't blame him. I like him as a coach and have no personal issues with him, but I was sick of watching it tonight as well.
Plato Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Made a couple of calls. Word is that Scott Co put the JV in. Henry Clay didn't follow suit so Scott Co put the varsity back in. Coach Simpson didn't appreciate it and did call the time out with 1 second left and walked off the field without shaking hands. To quote my source, "it wasn't pretty"

It about got very ugly.
Quiet_Storm11 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Can't say I agree with walking off the field and not finishing a game no matter how upset over another coaches "antics" you may be.
GNGsports Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Here's what went down: SCHS up big late in 4th, puts in JV on offense against HC varsity defense. On very first play, took a big loss and completely botched the play. McKee immediately called for Varsity offense and blasted his JV kids. SC gets off a run or two, then on fourth down the Cards tried a reverse pass which was unsuccessful for a large loss. HC players started yelling about the play call but take over on offense. On next Blue Devil snap, SC blitzes in for a big sack. HC then runs clock down to 1 second, calls time out and walks off without shaking hands. SC sees what's happening, starts to walk over to shake hands and instead the two coaching staffs meet in middle, there's some confrontation, players on both sides start talking heavily and eventually both teams had to be seperated. No punches thrown and nothing serious happened, but it could have gotten pretty ugly. It was tense for a few moments. This is as heated a rivalry as I've seen (especially from Scott County's POV) and tonight, at the end, both teams tempers flared. Not good looks on either side. Won't bash either side, bc I think both teams screwed up a bit in handling the last two minutes or so.

Trinity is the defending State Champ team this year. Anyway, interesting to hear. Were the players getting chippy as well, or was this mainly a struggle between the coaches?

strongopenyon Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 the truth hurts I am really not sure what you are saying. Are you saying the officials were giving Henry Clay the calls? Why don't you try and communicate your truth again a little more eloquently?
