October 9, 201511 yr Anyone on here willing to say that they buy into the notion that the Earth is actually only a few thousand years old? Science say 4.6 billion years; some creationists say 6-10,000. In this day and time, you would think there would be few, if any, that would think this but apparently that isn't the case. And not all of them are Rowan Co. citizens like Kim and Joe Bob Davis. Some actually have college degrees. This is, in my opinion, another instance of religion turning otherwise smart people into people who deny obvious science. Btw, there are still people out there who believe the Earth is flat... FOR REAL! Feel free to make a case for a young Earth. Most young Earthers want to say that bad science led the conclusion that the Earth is billions of years old instead of thousands. I bet Ben Carson is a "young Earth" believer. Wouldn't surprise meat all. He thinks everything was made in six days. A 6,000 year old Earth wouldn't be a stretch for him. Anyone think it's possible the earth is only a few thousand years old?
October 9, 201511 yr I think so. Not sure why. The planet could be 5,000 years old, or it could be 10 billion years old. All I care about is that it's still here for about 70 (hopefully) more years...:idunno:
October 9, 201511 yr There have been various threads on this question over the years, I don't recall anyone every buying into the idea but I may have missed their posts.
October 9, 201511 yr I personally know a couple of young-earthers. How do they interpret the science end of it? And do they believe it is just the Earth, or the whole Universe?
October 9, 201511 yr How do they interpret the science end of it? And do they believe it is just the Earth, or the whole Universe? The whole shebang. Some will suggest that God planted the dinosaur fossils and made them appear to be hundreds of millions of years old just as a way of "testing our faith."
October 9, 201511 yr Author The Flat Earth Society was reconvened in 2009 . Musician Thomas Dolby("She Blinded Me With Science") became the first member since its reconvening. It has hundreds of members and probably thousands who have become convinced that its possible to fall off the planet. Whether its a 6,000 yr old Earth, a table-top like planet that we can fall off of, or a loving but vengeful man who lives above the clouds, there are those who will suspend all rational thought and cast real science aside to believe in the most outrageous things. If you want to believe something bad enough, you'll convince your otherwise rational mind that it must be real. Many do that on a daily basis. Edited October 9, 201511 yr by Science Friction
October 9, 201511 yr Kim and Joe Bob Davis? Funny, but no. They are actually very intelligent individuals. They simply believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, and nothing makes them waver.
October 9, 201511 yr Author Funny, but no. They are actually very intelligent individuals. They simply believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, and nothing makes them waver. That has always fascinated me. I, too, know some otherwise very smart people who believe the most outrageous things , all tied to their religious convictions. Simply fascinating and bewildering.
October 9, 201511 yr That has always fascinated me. I, too, know some otherwise very smart people who believe the most outrageous things , all tied to their religious convictions. Simply fascinating and bewildering. And I know a lot of otherwise intelligent people that think they have all the answers and anyone who wavers from their orthodoxy is less intelligent then they are.
