Soccer Thread in Football Forum

Featured Replies

I just read it and it's pretty funny really. All the comments about how the "unathletic" kids can play soccer so that's why it's popular, etc. As opposed to all those gazelles playing on the offensive and defensive lines in high school football that are so darned athletic.

Let's take the 11 most athletic kids from the CCH soccer team and the 11 most athletic kids from the CCH football team and have a decathlon shall we? I'm guessing the soccer players won't need to rush to the bench for a drink every 5-10 minutes like they do in football either.

GP... I just heard that they have agreed in principle, the decathlon is on if they can come to terms on a couple of sticking points.

Football players are insisting on the use of timeouts and also request at least a 30 second break for every 8 seconds of action.

Same thing the wife always says about football. Play for a few seconds than talk about it for a bunch.

I do think the physical exertion of trying to move another 300 pounnd human does wear a bit harder on a body. In addition the fact the object of the football game is to make contact versus minimal contact allowed wears on one too.

In soccer's support, a midfielder runs a lot of the field and plays with little to no subsitiution opportunites. Also footballers typically only play those 8 seconds for half of the game.

Minimal contact allowed..........LOL

Minimal contact allowed..........LOL

Really? I say something positive about soccer and you want to nit pick my comment? I'm sending you to the football forum to read my comments over there.

How about this instead: We take the 11 most athletic soccer players from CCH and put them up against the 11 most athletic football players from HHS and have a decathalon ?

I would put the O and D line of HHS (in most years) up against anyone's soccer team in a decathalon any day....why do you have to hate on the O and D line guys anyway ?

No wonder @TAC can't stand soccer....

I'm stunned...

I would not. I look at it this way. The best flag football players are former WRs, DBs, Safeties, AND basketball and soccer players. Decathlons are mostly running and jumping. Now skill players top 11 vs. soccer player top 11, then we're talking.

That drives me nuts about guys who come down on football players. It is a different kind of endurance. That is OK soccer guys. It is ok to be in shape in relation to the physical demands of your sport. I respect every sports conditioning as I've died two minutes into an indoor game, 1 minute into sparring in martial arts, and after the 1st drive of my first college game.

I was merely responding to some of the many negative comments made about soccer and soccer players in the football thread on this subject. But let's look at it and see how your D and O linemen would fare. Below are the events.

100-metre dash

Running long (broad) jump

Shot put

High jump

400-meter run

110-metre hurdles

Discus throw

Pole vault

Javelin throw

1,500-metre run

Exactly how many of the above events would your linemen win vs. the CCH starting 11 in soccer? Three.......at most.

I think this whole controversy was settled back in the 70s and 80s during the Superstars competition on network TV. The football players regularly won the competition with Kyle Rote Jr. the only soccer player to win it (several times). Granted Kyle Rote, Jr. may have been the only soccer player entered and he was, in truth, a converted football player, but that's not important.

Someone should sponsor a NKY HS Superstars competition as a fundraiser. I bet you could sell out a stadium for THAT event.

But it would be fun watching the poles break during the pole vault........as long as no one got hurt...

Took a break here during work to watch the end of this Scotland/Poland match. Turned it on just in time to see Stephen Fletcher score an absolute beauty for Scotland. Whole place erupted and now half the stadium is singing "The Flower of Scotland" at the top of their lungs.

I love this game and I don't care what anyone has to say the other way.

@TAC you make some fair points. As I previously stated, I'm not going to try to convince a non-futbol guy. I really don't care if meathead can't appreciate the game.

However, you did cross the line on the grass fairy comment. See what I did there? ;)

TAC is making nice. He and I had an exchange in the football thread. I appreciate his efforts here.
