Seneca cancelled JV and Freshmen games vs Trinity

Featured Replies

Seneca cancelled their JV and Freshmen games versus Trinity scheduled for next week.

No replacements have been found as of this posting. This will afford football fans the opportunity to watch Male host the St Xavier JV and Freshmen teams that week.

THS, Seneca is the worst ranked 6A football school correct?

Correct.

Its really sad to see the scores of their varsity games so far. Scored 12 points the entire season & have given up 298 points. Don't know anything about their school, but it has to be really hard to get kids to play when the games are so lopsided.

Well said Johnny! I looked up their roster. 8 Seniors; 29 Jrs. and So; and 8 Freshman.

No wonder they canceled the Freshman game. Heck those 8 guys would have had to play the whole game down 8 v 11.

They can't afford to do the JV game either because ALL those JRs and SO (and probably freshman too) have to play varsity.

Begs the question, how much longer can Seneca field a varsity football team with these numbers?

thanks Purple88! They are in a tough spot for sure with those numbers. I know 1A teams that probably have more student-athletes than that out for football. No way they can be successful @ that level with so few players. I've seen several 6A schools with numbers hovering around this level & it was downright scary to watch them suit up against another 6A team that was bringing 80-90+ players with them if they dressed them all.

Johnny, Isn't there something like 7 v 7 for some teams that just don't have the numbers to play so they don't have to completely lose football. But I thought those were for really small school like Eminence I think?

Not surprising, and honestly neither school would get much out of these two games. We played Seneca when they were in our district on the freshmen and JV level and the games were not competitive. Seneca had a solid run when Andy Clark was the QB and Garry Williams played OL for them, and then again when DeMarcus Smith was there, but after that they have struggled to produce quality teams. They do usually have one or two DI guys, just not enough solid players stick it out there.

If there is I dont know about it & as far as I know the KHSAA doesn't recognize it. Eminence rosters 34 students @ 1A & plays a full 11v11 schedule. Just 4 years ago they were 9-2.

I do believe Trinity has the "Senior Night" festivities scheduled for the Seneca varsity game...recognizing the Seniors and Senior Parents. Hope they at least get that opportunity for the experience. No telling what will happen.

Tell the Dad's to bring their football gear. They might have to go in for Seneca!

Seneca has a new coach Ted Leasor, he cleaned house and ran off or kicked off a bunch of players. The 8 freshmen are probably just the ones that get to dress varsity.

Thanks Pete! That's good to hear! I don't wish Seneca bad vibes and actually wish Coach Leasor lots of luck!

From all accounts I've heard the new administration does not put a lot of stock in athletics in general. Football can be taxing on a school budget especially when so few fans support. But, when managed properly, the football program can be a driving force behind school spirit, pride, and community involvement.

In all honesty this type of situation is all too common in JCPS.

Manual is even struggling to field a freshman team. I'm interested to know how many JCPS teams have more than 25 players out for freshman. This year Male played Freshman, Sophomores and select Juniors against Fairdale and Seneca. it looked like Male had 100 players on the sideline compared to Seneca's JV of about 25.

Hambone, do you think this has a chance to change the other way anytime soon or is it a school by school basis? Also I don't know about Manual's history very much, but wouldn't think they've had much issue in the past fielding a freshman team. True?
