Heads up play to knock the ball out of the end Zone. He knew the rule and did the best thing he could. If he dove on the ball if could have squirted around. I always knew the rules in the sports I played. I felt it was always important to know what the situation or potential situation was. I know I made some refs uncomfortable knowing more than they did at times in some of the hack leagues I played in. Actually did something in flag football at college. They threw the flag against me and I promptly pulled out the rules and showed them it was legal. They reversed the call and changed the rule the following year. Should have seen the looks on Steve Meijer and Dan Henry's faces on that one.

I was ticked at the game anyway. I needed Seattle to win by 10 in order to cash in on my second straight week of a poll I'm in. By them blowing the lead I was hoping they blew the game too. LOL

My guess is the Back Judge loses a game.

Not entirely true. You can review the 12 man on the field call. You can also review a PI call if you believe the ball was tipped.

 

You can't review a judgement call. For example when you review the PI you are only getting to look at the tip, not the actual pass interference, because that part is a judgement call by the ref.

Yea you're right. I was thinking it was Chancellor who did both for some reason.

I knew you couldn't bat a ball, but I didn't know the full parameters of the rule. While the ref deserves what he gets, I also feel bad for him and wish the other refs would have come together to confer and save his day.

This isn't basketball. Possession must be literal possession if a ball goes out of bounds, it doesn't matter who touches, just who possessed it last before going out of bounds.

The ref says he felt like the tip was inadvertent. I don't believe that, but you can't challenge it.

Me either. I think he just froze during the game and is making an excuse now. If he saw the tip there is no way he could have thought it was accidental.

The bolded is why, IMO, he needs to be done for the season. You screw up and make a mistake, that's fine, but don't lie after the fact. Man up and own it.

If it were in fact inadvertent then they would have made the correct call.
