What if he posted the picture with the caption' date=' "next person that crosses me" or something of that nature? Still ridiculous?[/quote']

False. We have had employees fired and disciplined over comments on Myspace and Facebook.

I assume those were directly related to or about the company?

Had a seminar a few weeks ago that spoke about this very thing, examples (real life cases) of what is protected and what isn't.

It all depends what it says in the union contract.

Once Facebook blew up our company added a social media policy. It's vague but each case is dealt with on a case by case basis.

Added it to the next contract or company policy?

So could we get fired for posting a nasty race, Sexual, religious or political view on BGP where we hide behind and avatar and fake name?

Company policy. Policy is not in the contract.

Don't know about fired but you could get suspended. :D

Many companies hire HR people who specifically scour Social Media during the hiring process as well as employee tenure.

The kids today really have no clue how much damage they are causing themselves with pictures and comments posted on the internet. I have warned my college aged kids about it but still find myself sending a text once or twice a month to my daughter asking her if a sarcastic meme or picture she posted is one she would like a future employer to see.

This guy in the article is a moron and the idiot racists who tried to be cute and make fun are now realizing how dangerous social media comments can be.

Good question....if I know a fellow member on here and he makes a racists comment can I contact his employer and report it? Could the employer have the ability to contact the Guru and force him to divulge that information revealing the actual user?

Yes to one, absolutely no to two. How would they force him to do anything?

I'd love to be a fly on G's wall when he gets that phone call.
