Off-Duty Indianapolis Officer Kills Pedestrian with Patrol Car

Featured Replies

Person in dark clothing walking in the middle of the street combined with impaired driving is a lethal combination, obviously.

Even before we talk about the victim being killed, if you get a DUI in your police cruiser, you should lose your job. No questions asked.

No doubt.

There's an ongoing case in NYC where an officer went out with fellow officers after work and got blitzed. Not sure if he was driving a cruiser home or not BUT he rolled up on someone, got out of the car, walked up to the citizen and shot him multiple times and killed him. He claims he doesn't remember because he blacked out.

Guy has been GETTING PAID while suspended for over a year.

Maybe he is getting paid by his insurance for some type of mental disability.

Waiting to go to trial which I think is this month.

17 months since the incident. Fired 13 shots into the car. Admits he was drunk . That's actually his defense.

My memory tells me it was due to an appeal and still being paid by the city.

Most likely due to a union contract. One of the reasons I'm not a fan of unions. To many time they prevent people who should be removed from jobs from being removed.

ANY officer who is arrested for a DUI while driving a police vehicle should IMMEDIATELY be suspended without pay. If convicted, terminate, if acquitted re-instate and pay back wages. Police unions would never have that though.

Yeah and without a union too many people who shouldn't be removed from jobs would be removed.

So we protect and pay mediocrity. The new American way.

All union employees are mediocre? Is that what you are saying?

So when a company agrees to pay Union employees that are under investigation that is the fault of the Union and not the company who agreed to the contract? This only seems to apply to police officers and teachers anyways. Nobody in my Union gets paid anything while under investigation for anything. You get a grievance hearing with no guarantee of getting your job back.

That's not what I said at all and you know it.

I'm not going to get in a union fight with you. My views are well known. I think that they are corrupt. You don't agree. Good for you.

No. I didn't know it. That's why I asked. You made a one line post with no explanation and your views on unions are clear and well known as you said.

Corporations are corrupt. Way more corrupt than unions will ever want or try to be. If they weren't then unions wouldn't be needed now would they? You have conservative views and that's fine but to act like unions are corrupt and that corporations aren't is foolishness.

I didn't say that either and you know it. The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is that unions protect bad employees, and just to be perfectly clear for you I'M NOT SAYING ALL UNION MEMBERS ARE BAD EMPLOYEES. With all the government regulation that unions have helped create they are no longer needed.
