  1. Make or become unlikely to give way or overturn. “the craft was stabilized by throwing out the raining ballast”
  2. Make or become unlikely to change, fail or decline. “an emergency program designed to stabilize the economy”

Stability is coming to Class 5A after a, sometimes, unpredictable start. Some perineal powers started the season uncharacteristically, some continue to have some difficulty. But, those teams have some experience under their belts now and are starting to stabilize and play as expected.

There are some surprises taking place in Class 5A, some programs that may have not been predicted to do as well as they are currently. Those teams are making the class exciting and have people asking just how far those surprise programs can go.

Bowling Green looked more like Bowling Green this past week, beating a ranked Class 4A Warren Central. Can they continue that trend by beating a ranked 6A team - Central Hardin? The last time the Purples played a ranked Class 6A team - St. Xavier - things did not end well for Bowling Green. Have they improved since that defeat? Is Bowling Green on track to enter the District portion of the schedule? Is Bowling Green ready for playoffs?

Pulaski County continues their winning ways by dispatching Rockcastle County. They are expected to have a similar result this week versus Madison Southern. Will there be any surprises for the Maroons this week?

Owensboro had little trouble with Class 6A Daviess County and a week off to prepare for District play. Some have voiced their opinion that Owensboro may deserve to be number one, or two, in the rankings. What are your arguments for Owensboro being higher? How will they do after the week off?

Some people were surprised by Fern Creek’s win over Class 2A DeSales. Fern Creek has been the sleeper in Class 5A until this big win. Perhaps the eyes of the Class 5A fans have been opened to the possibilities of Fern Creek. So, this would be a great time to learn about the Tigers. Who should we be watching from Fern Creek? Who are their playmakers? What are their possibilities?

Southwestern didn’t beat Corbin in spectacular fashion, but they did win. Is Southwestern going to be ready for upcoming matchup with District Rival Pulaski County? How will the Warriors matchup with Montgomery County this week?

Christian County is on the rise after beating a quality Class 4A Hopkinsville. How will the Colonels fare this week? Will Christian County go deep in a very competitive field in the playoffs on the Western side of the bracket?

Anderson County took a loss last week to Class 4A Franklin County. An unexpected set back for the Bearcats. Will Anderson County be able to right the ship this week against Paul Dunbar?

North Laurel took another step to an undefeated 2015 by beating Lincoln County and are expected to continue down that road this week against Harlan County. Their first real test may come in week 10 versus Montgomery County.

Bullitt Central lost a shootout to Class 4A Spencer County, 42-77. It may be difficult to take much away from a game like that, but on the bright side it looks like Bullitt Central’s offense is capable. But, there has to be some work on the defense if the Cougars are going to compete in the playoffs.

South Oldham, Covington Catholic, Greenwood and Montgomery County all notched wins last week. For Covington Catholic it is their first of the season and may show a glimpse of the difficult schedule paying off for the Colonels. Montgomery County is showing they are an improved team this year. Greenwood may be sneaking up on some people and showing they are capable. South Oldham is 3-1 and looks ready for District play. How far will South Oldham be able to go?

Stability is a good thing for most programs. It looks like the top teams are reaching that level of play. There are still some work to do with other teams this year, but many, at the top, seem to be working to achieve that needed stability. Which teams are going to get better as the season goes on? Which teams are maturing at the mid point of the season? What teams will surprise people this week? Which ones will surprise people in the playoffs?

Pulaski CO plays Madison Southern not Central.. I would expect them to continue their winning ways but would think it's a tougher test than the previous two weeks.

Yea, mistyped that. I will fix it.

Owensboro had a tremendous amount of trouble with Daviess County, OHS was trailing until Daviess lost 2 of their playmakers one of them being their Wideout Stratton.

They won by 4 TDs

They won by 4 TDs

It was a one score game when DC lost their best player.

OHS was never trailing. I assume you didn't see the game. OHS sat their huge Defensive lineman most of the 2nd quarter. And thei DC WR is good but he would have done nothing to stop OHS from scoring 49. 49-21, seriously? Owensboro had a TD called back and could have scored again in the 4th if they desired.

BG is NOT playoff ready. No sir not at all. Much better ball discipline this week but offense is still too inconsistent. I believe they will develop into a playoff ready squad but not quite there yet. I am however pleased with the slow but steady improvements. It shows the kids are listening to thir proven staff and want to win.

Is Central Hardin ranked again? Last I checked they dropped out of the 6A top ten.

They are not in the Top 10 in 6A

They are not in the Top 10 in 6A

I was wondering because Ram referred to Central Hardin as ranked in discussion of BG's upcoming game between the two.

Central Hardin was "previously" ranked.
