Beechwood 61 Holy Cross 0 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

This game was as lopsided as a game can be. Beechwood rotated players in liberally but it did not change what was happening on the field. Six different players scored touchdowns for Beechwood. Here are the scoring plays:

Q1

8:20 ... Tyler Wagner 9 yard run, Dillon Doverspike XP, 7-0

3:36 .... Wagner 3 yard run, Doverspike XP, 14-0

Q2

9:40 ... Jake Sherron 44 yard run, Doverspike XP, 21-0

5:24 ... Wagner 29 yard run, Doverspike XP, 28-0

5:11 ... Doverspike 21 yard run, Doverspike XP, 35-0

2:12 ... Josh Derry 52 yard run, Doverspike XP, 42-0

Q3

9:50 ... John Odom 75 yard kickoff return, XP blocked, 48-0

2:30 ... Noah Howard 17 yard run, XP off goalpost, 54-0

Q4

3:40 ... Howard 36 yard run, Doverspike XP, 61-0

Not having a MS team has to be hurting Holy Cross.

They had pretty good numbers and they had size. Looking at both teams before the game, it looked like Beechwood would have their hands full. This may have been a froshmore team for Holy Cross. Someone from Holy Cross will need to let us know about that.

Had to of been Froshmore HC only had 4 or 5 freshman this year.

Derry? Odom?

Sons of Dixie guys?

Holy Cross was not able to play more than half of their team in this game because they are juniors and Beechwood has an eighth grader playing. KHSAA rules will not allow for eight graders to play on the same field as juniors.

HC has like 25 Juniors in the program. There is some dissent because the program continues to bring juniors down who play varsity to get experience at other positions .

That is part of the reason for low frosh # .

Correct, they can practice with the varsity team, but can not play in a game with Juniors or Seniors.

Yes. Adam (Freshman) and Josh (the 8th grader in question) are the sons of Chris Derry. Chris played for Dixie with Pike and went on to play for UK.

Odom is the son of Dennis Odom.... longtime Dixie coach and player.

This was a freshman game, not JV. This was Beechwood's freshman team. Are you saying Beechwood's freshmen beat Holy Cross' JV minus the juniors 61-0?

Regardless, good job Tigers.

I can understand both sides of this argument. HC wants to develop some of its older underclassman and the KHSAA rules will not allow Juniors to play with 8th graders (Beechwood starts 1 8th grader). Beechwood coaches offered a compromise... they would not play the 8th grader on defense if HC would not play any Juniors on Defense and HC refused. Not sure why, but decided not to play Juniors at all. This wasn't done on a phone call in the middle of the week... no... it was done at the start of the game with these boys there ready to play.

IMO, HC didn't need older kids to play and certainly didn't need the snobby attitude from Koz. What HC needed today was a coach. They lacked fundamentals needed to play football. Yes, you do need to develop the Juniors... but, if you continue to develop kids, that should already have been developed, over your future.... the numbers will continue to go down.

I will say, I thought that Dillon Couch (HC QB) looked very good in warmups. He looks very athletic and a strong arm. I am not sure why they waited to pass until the final 2 drives.... and when they did throw it was long fades. The HC line gave him enough time to make short passes and that is what they should have done. I think you have a few talents on that team that you didn't utilize and one of those... was that boys arm.

I am still confused. This was a freshman game. Why would the thought of juniors playing ever be considered?

I was thinking the same thing.....why are they even there?:idunno:

Word I got all the program is focused on right now is maximizing the junior class .

They had a Froshmore game last week and told the freshman and sophomores they were starting. Show up game day and they had all the juniors starting. Freshman didn't get in until final few minutes.

Not a lot of long term planning.
