Ram
Prior to the start of the season Class 5A had the making of a super-competitive class with several teams at the top that could complete with any team in the state. After two weeks of the season, that looks dramatically different with only one thing remaining consistent - Bowling Green. The #1 Purples played #9 Christian County and showed there is a huge gap between them and the rest of the class. Can anyone step up and compete with Bowling Green? Or, are the Purples going to have a cake walk to re-establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the state regardless of class? Pulaski County’s powerful offense was not stopped by the strong Scott County defense, but it was slowed down dramatically and the Maroons took their first loss of the season. Is this game indicative of a down turn by Pulaski County? Or, does it drive them to do better against their 5A competition? After all, the Maroons lost two games last season and still won the State Championship. Highlands evened up their record in week two after stunning the state by losing to Cooper in week one of the season. Is Highlands on their way to improving each week and people are just smelling blood in the water thinking they are not the Highlands that is normally on the field? After Scott County’s win over Pulaski County last week, we will have some strong data to compare this week when Highlands squares off against Scott County. Will Highlands play better against them then Pulaski did? Owensboro is 2-0 and may be flying under some people’s radar. After beating Warren Central and Hopkinsville some people may have their eyes open to what the Red Devils are doing. Is Owensboro on Pulaski County’s and Highlands’ level? What will we learn when the Red Devils face Owensboro Catholic this week? Southwestern lost a close one last week to 4A Bourbon County. Will they get back on the winning track this week? Are they down from what was expected? Or, is Bourbon better then what was previously thought? Covington Catholic took loss two in as many weeks and will lose quite a few more this season. Is that a testament to their ability? Or, is that a testament to their ridiculous schedule? The Colonels have several weeks before they play any games that really matter. Anderson County squeaked out a win over 6A George Rogers Clark after several controversies. That win makes the Bearcats 2-0. They face Mercer County and Boyle County in the next two games, things may get a little harder for Anderson County. Can they get to 4-0? North Laurel is undefeated and may remain that way for for quite a while. Some may not believe that, but it is more then possible, it is probable. The Jaguars and Coach Larkey are for real and the state had better take notice. Can North Laurel compete come playoff time? Will they be the Graves County of 2015? Fern Creek lost this week. Or, a better way to say that is, “Fern Creek lost by 10 points to a top 10 6A school? Perhaps the Tigers don’t believe in moral victories, but the rest of 5A had better take this game as a warning: “APPROACH WITH CATION”. Who will Fern Creek surprise this season? Bullitt East (0-2), Grayson County (1-1), Letcher County Central (1-1) and Dixie Heights (0-1) all suffered losses this week. Bullitt East to a ranked 4A team. Letter County Central lost to a highly ranked Pikeville. Dixie Heights followed a disappointing scrimmage with Beechwood by losing to Scott by 30 points. Some teams to watch: Bullitt Central (2-0) and North Bullitt (2-0)
Purple88
Ram, Terrific work as usual! Couple things: 1. Let's see how BG does at St X this week. No offense to Monroe or Christian County, but this week is a better test. 2. Pulaski is just fine. The Scott Co game only helps them IMO. 3. Highlands is Highlands. If they meet Pulaski, it will be in NKY. 4. Owensboro. This is the team to watch. OCath can't play with them as their O and D lines simply can't hang. IMO BG is the only team on their schedule and their side of the bracket for that matter that have a chance to beat them. The rest of the teams IMO are trying to be the next Graves County. I agree pretty much with this assessment of where everyone is right now.
Ram
I think we definitely find out how far ahead Bowling Green is after they play St. Xavier.
Hellbird
I think we definitely find out how far ahead Bowling Green is after they play St. Xavier.I don't see it that way. I think St X is really down this year so I'm not sure how much of a measuring stick that will be for BG

Hellbird
Come on, they one of the top 10 teams in Class 6A and the entire state regardless of class. You know that. Very well could be. It's early and I will admit I was basing a lot off of their crushing scrimmage. This week will let us know the truth. If they keep it within 2 scores then they could be for real. I ask because they play the Red Devils the next week.

Wow, that is a great question. I will be honest that I don't know much about Owensboro this year but the games they have had so far weren't exactly against powerhouses. I actually think St X could be better but wow I wish there were some better teams that Owenaboro faces to make a more educated decision.
devils58
I don't think there is anyway to know if OHS is better than St. X because, well, they don't play. Of course after BG plays St. X this week and OHS the week after, we may have a solid idea. The thing about OHS right now is, the Red Devils are still trying to put together things on the offensive side of the ball. Playcalling for OHS has been terrific. The execution and penalties, not so much. Some of that is due to new kids in the lineup and a new quarterback. Most everyone feels like OHS will be fine in the big picture, win or lose to BG. I really feel like OHS and BG will play twice this season and honestly, only the second game matters. I do want OHS to go down to the EL and beat the Purps, but either way......it just doesn't matter. Even for BG, the regular season game won't matter in the big picture. I think the top 4 looks about right. Pulaski is the defending champs so they get some wiggle room. Highlands beat OHS at state last year so they get the benefit as well. Right now BG is #1 and I have zero problem with that.
Brown
Where will the BG/OHS playoff game be, if both end up #1 in their districts?

devils58
Brown, the regular season game could very well determine that. ATLCat is correct on the region, but I'm not sure about the district on district matchup.
