Bert
1) Trinity High School (defeated Ensworth TN 45-0) – While the Ensworth team Trinity beat was not as historically strong as previous year’s teams, it is still Ensworth. So Trinity winning in such convincing fashion will keep the Rocks ranked number one. Next week, Brentwood TN 2) Male High School (defeated Floyd Central IN 41-0) – Many will say a victory over a Southern IN school is not that impressive but 41-0 is pretty impressive so Male stays #2 . Next week Ballard. This game will test how good these two top five Louisville teams are. 3) St. Xavier High School (Idle) – While X did not play in the opening week, they are still stinging in the “loss” to Simon Kenton in the scrimmage the week before. How much should a scrimmage be a factor????? Next week X plays Lexington Henry Clay and hard to call the first game of the season a must win but it could be to get the Simon Kenton monkey off their back and get some momentum going into the season. 4) Ballard (defeated Oldham Co. 54-0) – This author took some heat ranking the boys from Ballard as high as he did in the opening ranking but Ballard accepted that challenge by easily beating Oldham County. Next week is a huge challenge for them as that welcome Male to the Bruins home. 5) St. Francis DeSales (Defeated Fairdale 42-6) – DeSales being DeSales they win and they win convincingly. Next week will be a little more of a challenge against the 6A Butler Bears. 6) DuPont Manual High School (Defeated Central 28-10) Manual gets the victory over fellow Top Ten team Central and rises one step. The Crimsons should stay undefeated when they visit Fern Creek next week. 7) Christian Academy of Louisville (Lost to Simon Kenton 50-23) – CAL drops only one spot from their loss due to the respectable defeat coming from NKY 6A team Simon Kenton. CAL was winning a decent part of this game but SK’s numbers took over the game. CAL will face another 6A team next week in Eastern High School. 8) Meade County High School (Defeated Butler – 21-19) – Meade Co is the newest member of the top ten after defeating former top ten team Butler. Meade hopes to prove they deserve their new ranking next week when they visit PRP. 9) Central High School (Lost to DuPont Manual 28-10) – On the surface it would appear Central should have dropped more than one spot but because their loss was to a top ten team and the fact that no real strength is showing up elsewhere in the Louisville Area, they will stay at number 9. Next week Central will take on Knox Central. 10) Spencer County? (Defeated Bardstown 48-14) – The author of this Top Ten was grasping at straws at this point to find someone to fill the 10 spot. Numerous other teams could possibly fill it also. The author took heat in the opening ranking for leaving out Central Hardin but they lost to Boyle Co so hard to justify entering a Top Ten on a loss. Will have to see how Spencer does next week against Nelson County. Big Riser(s) – I think this award would have to go to Meade Co for entering the Top Ten at #8 . Big Droppers – Would have to go to Butler and John Hardin who’s losses dropped them out of the ranking overall. Game of the Week – Would have to be Male versus Ballard. Many say Male has an argument for being #1 over Trinity and a convincing win would support that argument and Ballard is tired of looking at the Big Three plus Manual for the past decade or more and a victory would put them in the mix of the 6A elite. Player of the Week – Trinity’s Jailen Reed who was the star of Trinity’s routing of Ensworth, TN.

Bert
Good roundup Bert, I like it! Thanks Ru. This early in the season is tricky to rank. T and Male could flip and I wouldn't argue with them. Is X really #3 after SK scrimmage???? Or do Ballard, Manual and DeSales deserve that 3 spot?? And the bottom third of the Top Ten I will fully admit is best guess. Fortunately answers will start coming in just a few weeks, the first of course being Male and Ballard showing their stuff this Friday.
ColonelMike
I would have to put North Oldham ahead of Spencer County, although that's one man's opinion only - and Spencer County has a lot of kids back from a pretty decent team last year. North Oldham - a semi-finalist in 4A last year and a miracle play away from beating Owensboro and making the finals - looks to be every bit as good on defense as last year. Their 41-0 shutout of Western in week 1 was the Mustangs' 6th shutout in their last 9 games dating back to the middle of last year. The defense even scored twice against the Warriors. This week: county rivalry game vs. Oldham County.

Look forward to them visiting E-town next week and see what they do.
