I'm not terribly a big supporter or objector to Planned Parenthood one way or another, nor have I spent much time studying closely what they are about or exactly what they do. My lack of a strong opinion is mostly related to the fact that in the past I hadn't given it a tremendous amount of thought.

 

On one side of the coin I generally felt that they were in existence with intent to be helpful to woman in educating them on how to prevent unwanted pregnancies and offering them advise about their options, and keeping them informed regarding female reproductive health matters.

 

On the other hand, lately with what's been in the news regarding extreme practices, I'm not so keen on what they might be up to if it's indeed true.

 

Personally my gut reaction to the topic of abortion has always been that I am not for it, but am for educating woman to prevent unwanted pregnancies to avoid getting to the point of having an abortion.

 

On the news last night they were showing how opposition to Planned Parenthood were demonstrating outside of establishments throughout the country and were interviewing some of them for their stance.

 

One black gentleman was stating that Margaret Sanger was a racist and that she had promoted abortion as a way to exterminate the black race. I had never heard this claim before and thought that it was an extreme accusation.

 

In researching this claim, I studied Wikipedia's biography of her, and then also found two articles where one of them echoed this man's claim, while the other described how false narratives of Sanger are being used to mislead people today with regard what she was all about.

 

I came to find that where I personally stand with the abortion topic was where she did as well with not being for it, but being for preventing unwanted pregnancies.

 

I also saw where those claiming that she was a racist and wanted to exterminate the black race had taken out of context things that she was quoted in saying to mislead others into believing that this was true, when it simply was not.

 

I could see now that this black man interviewed on the news had been swayed by misinformation to arrive at his extreme claim.

 

The 2nd article was more directly in line with the unbiased biography written on her, and when comparing the two articles side by side you can see where ones intentions are to mislead, while the others is meant to clear up the current misinformation that is falsely being spread with regard to her, and where she stood.

If those who oppose AHCA defunded PP, AND are successful in completely repealing AHCA, what then happens to the women who can no longer afford to see a doctor? I am cautiously supportive of dialing back federal funding to a private business. I just can't shake the feeling that at the first opportunity, AHCA opponents will do exactly as is often promised....completely repeal AHCA.

 

I absolutely feel PP has completely gone horrifyingly awry in what they should be doing. It is incomprehensible on the level of the atrocities committed by the Nazis.

 

If I could be assured of a few things, I would wholeheartedly support cutting off all federal funding to PP. As mentioned above, continuing AHCA is at the top. Other items include an overhaul of the adoption process, and the foster care system.

And the reason for my ire is because it is absurd, discriminatory and hypocritical on it's face. If liberal politicians couldn't use it as an issue (the completely manufactured by the left war on women) it wouldn't exist. I have NO ISSUES AT ALL with a private health insurance company offering to pay for these services for women, I have a huge issue with it being mandated that all plans must cover it. That means everyone has to pay for it. Are PSA tests for men mandated? How about A1C tests for anyone that may be at risk for diabetes? That's the cause of my ire, not that the services are being offered.

 

And I'll even compromise my position a bit. IF PP got completely out of the abortion business I would not necessarily be so strongly in favor of defunding them, but as long as they are an abortion provider there's no way to say that federal money does not pay for abortions.

As a staunch conservative, I am not in favor or completely repealing Obamacare. I am in favor of fixing the most obvious problems. Instances, a 70 y.o. woman does not need a plan that covers maternity services or well baby care. That's just ridiculous. A single male of any age doesn't need those services either. Let's make it truly affordable too. Let's get rid of the idiotic tax on medical devices too. That just drives up the cost of all healthcare due to the passing along of the increase to the consumer. Let's get rid of the burden on small businesses to provide insurance. It has put many out of business.

 

As an adoptive parent, I wholeheartedly agree and do what I can to help streamline the adoption process and the foster care system. The cost of adoption in the U.S. is astronomical. Greedy agencies, attorney's and birth mothers completely ruin the system. Also, most states have the policy that the birth mother can come back any time before the child turns 18 and ask for them back. How traumatizing is that to a child!!!

 

I could go on and on about the adoption and foster care system in the U.S. but I would be on here all day.

I have no trouble buying the information in the Astroturf video, and have often been skeptical about intended misleading information found on the internet, or "for or against" type info in comment sections for whatever I'm looking up, knowing how easy these comments could be planted to sway people one way or another. It can indeed be puzzling to know who to trust when you need trustworthy solid answers on various topics.

 

Regarding Margaret Sanger:

 

So just what exactly is truth about Margaret Sanger.

 

1. Was she a racist?

 

2. Did she want to exterminate the black race through abortion?

 

3. Was she against abortion, but favored preventing unwanted pregnancies?

 

4, Did she support the women's auxiliary of the KKK?

 

5. Did she knock the women's auxiliary of the KKK for being uneducated, and when speaking to them did she say that she felt that she was speaking to uneducated children and had to keep her terms simple so that they could understand?

I've seen documentaries that said many of the same things. I've never seen some of her worst quotes ever really being denied by PP or anyone else for that matter.
