Never offsides (you must have been a central defender or keeper) makes a great point about Ryle, although I have also read just as many people saying on here Ryle will struggle as they will do well, so I think the jury is still out on them.

But with almost every HS team that does well (and by well I mean advance no less then to their regional semi final game) teams must have new players step up and play a bigger role then they did the previous year or even begin play for the first time on varsity and be a consistent contributor. This is one of the great things about HS sports (and college sports), every year is a new team, to have a successful season existing players and new players must take on new and important roles. Fun to watch these players develop and find themselves throughout the season.

And before anyone gets upset, yes I know for some teams, "doing well" can mean a lot of different things. Maybe going 500% is a great year, maybe just getting into your regional tournament is a great year, good for you?

But if you ask any player on any of the top 10-12 teams listed in this thread if they would be satisfied with anything less then getting to their regional semi final game, safe bet all would say no.

Dbl yellow, since you're the ncc expert I have a question..

With ncc graduating most of their scoring from last year, who will be their main threat this year? You have made it clear that you believe ncc will be a top 3 team in the region this year, but without a major threat or true goal scorer it will be difficult for them to be as successful as you believe they will be this season.

We will score plenty of goals

Our scoring won't come from just one person this year. It will be a team effort, same as last year.

First time in recent memory that I don't see NCC on CovCath's schedule, unless I missed it. Any idea why?

From what I hear, they couldn't find a date.

I hear they tried

That "joke team" was coached by a "joker" who is now coaching at the next level....D1

New to this site but but I thought I would give it a try. I guess I will start off by taking a shot at my top 5.

1. CCH - I don't think there is any argument here. With Day, Litzler, Wessels leading a group of 24 other varsity juniors and seniors they're going to be very strong and have a lot of depth. The real question is will they live up to their expectations or yet again fall short.

2. St. Henry - Last years 9th region champs, who lost some very strong players (Dehner, Lannon, Langen) and many more, have a very strong group of underclassman stepping up. Nelter and Sanders will provide a strong offense with Manahan in the mix as well. Where St. Henry will have some trouble is on the defensive side. I believe they have a young back line as well as a new goalie stepping up this year.

3. Scott - They suffer the loss of Treadway, Schneider, Evans, Muench, Keiborth, and a couple more, so they will definitely have to adjust there playing style. With senior Seay in goal who is arguably one of the best in the state and Senior Morgan in Midfield who I've heard is committed to play at Marshall (D1) and several others having good varsity minutes that may just give them enough to win another regional title. My big question for Scott is do you forfeit the skills of Morgan in the midfield by putting him up top looking for him to score? (3rd in goals last year)

4. Highlands - With 7 returning varsity starters I believe this is one of the teams that lost the least. Last year they started off a little slow but I think this year they will come out strong and have improvements made. Senior Gesenhuse will play a huge role in being the leader of this team. Very strong physical player who will be the center of attack. Some other strong players will include Sellers, and Schweitzer. Highlands always puts up a strong fight and I think will turn a few heads this season.

5. Cooper/NCC - Both of these teams suffered many losses and I haven't had the chance to see either play so I'm having trouble placing these two. Cooper loses OPOY and Co-DPOY. O'brien was from what I believe the game changer in the middle for Cooper, and their goalie being the arguably the best in NKY has to be a huge loss . Not sure who the new goalie will be. Junior Adam Snow is a very good player and he will be the go to player for this team, just not sure who will be the supplier. They will need to have some underclassman step up. NCC was a very impressive team last year, I think they suffer the biggest loss of them all. Losing Hensley who was Co-DPOY (also I believe scoring a fair amount of their goals) will really hurt. They also will suffer the loss of their coach and having a new set of eyes on this team may just make this a rebuilding season. They have a lot of young potential that can work something up over the next few years, this season will be interesting. I'm very excited to see them play Scott on Friday. Soccerama should shed some light on this debate.

Welcome to BGP, @Stepover! Great first post. Looking forward to more of your contributions in the soccer forum.

Some nice insights, I think you are pretty spot on Stepover!!!

Cooper and ncc are tied????? For fifth?????

They lost about the same on the field but ncc picked up a new (better) coaching staff.

If you think Cooper was good last year, look at what ncc did to them in regionals.

I don't know enough about these two teams to be able to say who is better, but I'm having a difficult time understanding what last years regional game has to do with this years rankings?

What happened last year is irrelevant to this years pre season rankings. I put them both tied for 5th and stated that I really have yet to see what they have this year (as stated)..... Also I'm just a little curious, what is your basis for the new coaching staff being " better " ? There is no history to back this up so I'm having a little trouble seeing things from your point of view.

DBLYELLOW please accept this award and give it to your son on behalf on NCC. Every player deserves a trophy for their efforts. So now please leave personal attacks on the coaches out of it. Let's look and talk about this upcoming season.

Bornhoeffer was a great coach, but everything out of his team. He just never made any noise cone region play, as much as McDonald did with his team. I'm not trying to question Bornhoeffers legitimacy.

Borny was a good technical coach

Never offside, thanks for my very first trophy.

I will except it with honor, maybe one day pass it along to my kids.
