PepRock01
No complaints here. I'd rather they waste their money on single use facilities than any US city.
DragonFire
No complaints here. I'd rather they waste their money on single use facilities than any US city. If I could like this 1,000 times, I would. I hope the Olympics never again lands here. The amount of money spent on the event now is beyond ridiculous. The Sochi winter games cost $51 Billion. That's billion, with a B. The Salt Lake City games cost roughly $2 billion, the last Olympics held here. I've said it before, but in light of the financial waste, I think it's actually time that the Olympics became a thing of the past, unless they can figure out a way to eliminate this financial bloat. Jumper_Dad
Olympics need 2 permanent summer locations and 2 permanent winter locations and just rotate between them.
Jumper_Dad
I'd give Detroit the Summer Olympics, does any city need the morale boost, jobs and infrastructure more than D-Town. Make Nike the Signature Sponsor and Phil Knight would pay for most of it. Maybe Sydney for the other Summer location, puts an Olympics in the Southern Hemisphere and opposite of Detroit location geographically. Somewhere in Canada (Montreal or Toronto maybe, I like watching live and EST or CST Zone would be a plus for me!!!) for a Winter location. Somewhere in Europe for the other Winter location. bugatti
At least we know the opening ceremonies will be awesome. What they put on a few years ago was great, sparing no expense.

Yes they are expensive, but all the recent Olympic games in the US have turned a profit. The Salt Lake City games, made over $100 million. And TV ratings would be huge (and profitable) as most of the events would be shown live. And we have several cities that have the necessary infrastructure to pull it off. Heck Los Angeles could probably host the games next week if needed, as they have all the necessary venues already. Certainly hosting an Olympic games isn't for just any city or country. But in the right, hands, there's no reason why an Olympic games couldn't be a huge economic boost.
Getslow
Now, I wait for my favorite part of international sports discussion. Getslow's biting commentary on the corruption and ineptitude. What more could possibly be said? The Olympics have become the perfect excuse for autocratic governments to bulldoze poor neighborhoods to build massive legacy projects, projects awarded to corrupt fat cats who have the "in" with the right officials to contracts they don't have to bid on. There's a reason these events are increasingly in places like China: no one else will have them. I've never been prouder of a city in my life than when Boston dropped their bid, partially due to the massive public outcry against the games. I love the Olympics. I hate how they're run. Sandman
Winter Olympics 2022: Beijing chosen to stage Games - CNN.com Will be first city to have hosted summer and winter. Now, I wait for my favorite part of international sports discussion. Getslow's biting commentary on the corruption and ineptitude. In regard to international sports discussion and the commentary (truth) on the corruption and ineptitude involved they go hand in hand. I'm guessing the international soccer scandal proved it. Most of the world is corrupt and inept. We see it to varying degrees all the time. It might two months to get a pothole fixed in Mayberry these days. How long you think it may take in China? Count it in decades. I like the Olympics, but I hate the corruption that runs them. And, I'm not sure I'd want or really think any US city is ready to host them full-time. I'd maybe go with LA for the summer and Vancouver or Toronto in Canada for the winter as hosts.
