Who do you think wins this scrimmage and why?

At any competition one should play to win, but for these scrimmages, I'd rather concentrate on how the lineman are progressing. I don't care who "wins" a scrimmage this early.

Same thing you get out of scrimmaging anyone. You get to see your team against another team, you get to try some things out, or work on some things. They also go a long way in helping you determine your depth.

Why would Dixie schedule Newport for a Scrimmage? Dixie's coaches must know it is really going to be a bad year.

I wondered why Newport would have scheduled this scrimmage. This doesn't look like a good match up on paper.

Goofy things happen during scrimmage season. Coaches changes sometimes lead to broken agreements between teams, and you have to play whomever you can. Not saying this is the case here. But there are no contracts involved, so there are no penalties for breaking agreements. Again, I have no knowledge of how this game was put together. But I'm not terribly surprised that two nearby teams somehow got together and decided to scrimmage each other.

I agree with RJS on this one . It 's a scrimmage . Glorified practice run . This is an opportunity for both programs to put in some reps on offense and defense , to see where they are at and make adjustments .

How can you see where you are at if you are getting pummeled? How can you see where you are at when your opponent offers little resistance? I would fear injury mostly for Newport but to be frank for Dixie as well. I realize there is always risk in a scrimmage. But that risk should return some reward. On paper, I see nothing but risk in this scrimmage.

 

I hope I am wrong. I hope that this is a truly competitive scrimmage that results in both teams learning a lot about themselves while remaining injury free. Best of luck to both teams!

How does scrimmaging Newport get you ready for Highlands and CovCath?

Well it pales in comparison to the NCC vs Dixie scrimmages of the 2000s which were the Super Bowl as scrimmages.....

 

But really it could be good for Dixie. You might know who your #1s are. But to compete with larger schools you better find out who can provide some depth so you do not have to play guys both ways. So excellent opportunity to find out which #2s or #3s can or can't hold their own against Newport's starters.

 

For Newport it is better than scrimmaging a 1A school that isn't going to help you much.

IT'S A SCRIMMAGE. Since when are we worrying about power rankings of a doggone scrimmage?
