July 29, 201511 yr These goofball announcers really think that Holmberg will shut the Cards down tomorrow for a series win. Really!! Desclafani is pitching tomorrow.
July 29, 201511 yr Mike Leake last 4 starts: 4-0, 0.60 ERA, 4 BB, 21 K's. Sounds like hell get traded. Votto on base 36 of his last 51 plate appearances. 3-3 again tonight with a double, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R and a BB.
July 29, 201511 yr You're right. Just seems like a lot of overly positive thinking for a sub par team When you are a Red's fan you have to find something positive to hang your hat on. I still have about 12 games to go to this year so I am looking for anything to make it worthwhile to go to GABP. I can remember years where I didn't even know who half the players were or didn't care.
July 29, 201511 yr You're right. Just seems like a lot of overly positive thinking for a sub par team Lots of young talented pitching in the system
July 29, 201511 yr Positive about what? Votto having good year? Means nothing about the season as a whole. I'm not talking about this season specifically. Kind of the issue here. Seeing the big picture
July 29, 201511 yr I'm not talking about this season specifically. Kind of the issue here. Seeing the big picture The big picture got significantly better when the Reds traded Cueto. Hopefully it'll continue to get better when Leake & Byrd (at a minimum) get dealt. It could get even better if the Reds trade Chapman & Parra.
July 29, 201511 yr Remember when Kevin Gregg was on this team? That was fun. That seems like forever ago.
July 29, 201511 yr Remember when Kevin Gregg was on this team? That was fun. Ruined my night by mentioning his name.
July 29, 201511 yr Speaking of Byrd, what was the rationale behind signing that guy.. I seem to recall a lot of positive banter concerning that signing, now he needs to go. Funny
July 29, 201511 yr Speaking of Byrd' date=' what was the rationale behind signing that guy.. I seem to recall a lot of positive banter concerning that signing, now he needs to go. Funny[/quote'] Byrd is 37 going on 38. He's in his 2nd year of a 2 year, $16 million contract. Even when he was acquired, he was never part of the team's plans beyond this year. He's also hit 16 HR in 70-something games.
July 29, 201511 yr Author Speaking of Byrd, what was the rationale behind signing that guy.. I seem to recall a lot of positive banter concerning that signing, now he needs to go. Funny Do you not get how this works? I'm not sure what's confusing about it. He was signed as a short term solution in left. The team isn't contending and he could be a valuable bench piece for a contender. Might as well dump the salary.

July 29, 201511 yr Author Agree 100% but... Byrd was actually acquired by trading Ben Lively. Lively is 7-7 in AA with 3.69 ERA. Ahhh yes forgot about that. The Reds thought they had another chance to contend. We mostly knew they didn't but they brought him in to give it a go anyway.
July 29, 201511 yr Ahhh yes forgot about that. The Reds thought they had another chance to contend. We mostly knew they didn't but they brought him in to give it a go anyway. No problem with it then or now, so long as Byrd's option doesn't vest (550 PA's). Somebody has to play left field...
