Mike Tomlin’s new deal worth at least $7 million a year

Featured Replies

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, the extension which carries him through the 2018 season is worth at least $7 million a year, which would put him in the top five highest-paid coaches.

Tomlin has a Super Bowl win and four division titles in eight years, with an 82-46 regular season record. While he hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2010 season, he’s clearly valued by a team that values stability.

Steeler fans, do you like this? Do you want Tomlin as long as Tomlin wants the Steelers?

Here is one of the comments from PFT, does he have a point?

This will be Tomlin’s 5th year in a row without a playoff win. He’s shooting for the Marv Lewis 12 years and counting with zero playoff wins.

The only difference is Tomlin inherited a team 2 years removed from winning a Super Bowl with a Hall of Fame defensive coordinator and an offensive coordinator who would go on to win head coach of the year ……

….. and Marv Lewis inherited a 14-year-old dumpster fire.

Hope PFT has a better point. He also won a Superbowl and got them to another.

This is the Steeler way. A successful way I might add which is exemplified in having only 3 head coaches since 1969.

If I'm the Steelers I keep him for a long time. They will win another one with him IMO.

I'm pleased. Some of their woes are a direct result of hanging on to the window they thought would remain open, some of which was Lebeau's choice I'd say. The next 2 years should be a sign of whether they are headed the right direction or not. The playoff deal was hindered minus Bell no doubt.

Stability in coaching has always been a key in their success. Good move.

If you were in charge what would you have to see over the next two years to keep Tomlin beyond that?

Improvement on the defensive side of the ball. New DC. Munchak has made the OL a strength in one season. They have arguably the best skill group in the league. But truly it all hinges on health. So I guess it would depend on how things go on that front.
