July 22, 201511 yr ...with less that 7% of the vote, with 16 candidates running. 100% divided by 16 is 6.25. Now, that probably would never happen simply because the vote total would have to be split fairly evenly across all candidates, and that won't happen. However, it's a good chance one could win with less than 15% of the vote. Now, I'm al about choice, but is this really a good thing?
July 22, 201511 yr No, it's a terrible thing for the GOP. Barring a thinning of candidates between now and primary season, all that is being accomplished is they're guaranteeing a Hillary win come the general election. JMO.
July 22, 201511 yr The four tiers of candidates: First - The Current Contenders: Bush Rubio Trump Walker Second - The Hard-Right Dark Horses Paul Carson Cruz Huckabee Third - The "High Name Recognition, No Chance" All Stars Christie Perry Kasich Santorum Fourth - The "Nope" Tier Graham Pataki Jindal Fiorina
July 22, 201511 yr ^Switch out Paul and Trump, and I'd agree. I understand what you are saying but if we are talking "current" then Trump is in that category. Agree?
July 22, 201511 yr I understand what you are saying but if we are talking "current" then Trump is in that category. Agree? Don't agree. Trump is not, has never been, and will never be a contender.
July 22, 201511 yr I agree with you in long run you swap out Paul and Trump but you can't right now when he's at the top of a lot of polls. After the debate will they switch most likely.
July 22, 201511 yr Author Don't agree. Trump is not, has never been, and will never be a contender. Agree. All Trump is doing is self promoting PT Barnum style. He is not a serious candidate and will not be perceived so by the general public I don't think.
July 22, 201511 yr Rand Paul is "Hard Right"? Poster child of the Tea Party. Most anti-government-overreach candidate. Yeah I understand their are serious veins of libertarianism and anti-establishment ideals that make up his perspective but I would characterize him as hard right before I called him a moderate or a RINO.
July 22, 201511 yr And with all that has been said here so far, Bush, Walker, Rubio, and maybe Paul will be around when it really matters. I think what Republicans really need to fear is a third party attempt by The Donald.
July 22, 201511 yr I'd say he's a Libertarian. He's definitely not a Republican, but I think he recognizes that that's the only way he can get elected currently. Coincidentally, he's the only candidate thus far that I would cast a vote for. No chance to the other 15 R's or the 3 D's.

Barring a thinning of candidates between now and primary season, all that is being accomplished is they're guaranteeing a Hillary win come the general election. JMO. I'll disagree. I don't see the number of candidates in the primary having an impact on the general election. There will be plenty of time for the person who wins the nomination to sell himself. Most people do not pay attention to the primaries anyway.
July 22, 201511 yr And with all that has been said here so far, Bush, Walker, Rubio, and maybe Paul will be around when it really matters. I think what Republicans really need to fear is a third party attempt by The Donald. Totally agree with both of your statements. It's almost like The Donald wants Hillary to have the easiest possible path by the way he's operating. I'll disagree. I don't see the number of candidates in the primary having an impact on the general election. There will be plenty of time for the person who wins the nomination to sell himself. Most people do not pay attention to the primaries anyway. Whoever emerges from the GOP primary will be so beaten, battered and bloodied by the process that there is no chance they will beat Hillary. The primary opponents will have basically done all of her opposition research for her. The fractious nature of the current RNC is doing far more harm to the party's chances to win the WH than the ongoing shrinking of the WASP voter rolls. When the Democratic Party is the one with the more unified message, you know the GOP is in trouble nationally.
