Best Brewery in KY

Featured Replies

I still have a ton to try from the KY breweries -- and many more to retry now that I have a logging app. As of today I'd have to go with West 6th over Against the Grain. This is based on the strength of their top two beers IMO, Heller Heaven and IPA.

I'm a fan of Country Boy.

I'll second Country Boy.

Stamping Ground Nitro Stout, and

Heart of Dankness Black IPA are my usuals.

Plus they always have a good variety of different barrel aged beers.

Serious bias in favor of Against the Grain because I spend a great deal of time there and so have the opportunity to take advantage of their tremendous variety. It will remain my favorite until something really amazing happens.

In the spring they made a batch of oyster stout that blew my mind. Unreal.

I like several others and it's pretty rare that I don't have at least a couple cans of the West Sixth IPA in my fridge.

Love the West 6th IPA. Some of their amber ale showed up at the bar since I last worked. Curious about that stuff.

ATG, I like fact they have more offerings. Plus Bo and Luke is the bomb.

Bo and Luke is unreal.

Where is Against The Grain.

I've not been there.

Louisville.

It's IN Louisville Slugger Field. They operate separately, but it's still in the same building.

If you get a chance, AGT has a tap takeover at Party Town, usually the last Friday evening prior to Christmas. The bring around ,15 different kegs.

Okay...just for curiosity's sake, let's see how many breweries and brew-pubs we can come up with in Kentucky.

I'll update the list as we rattle off breweries, and if you comment on the brewery/breweries you mention I'll leave them, but otherwise I'll delete them as I update the list. That way we can keep the thread a little "cleaner". Try to delineate if they are a brewery (distribute for sales elsewhere), a brewpub (brew and only sell at their restaurant/bar), or if they're a combination brewery/brewpub.

Brewery:

Against The Grain - Louisville

Apocalypse Brew Works - Louisville

Country Boy Brewing - Lexington

Ei8htball Brewing* - Bellevue

Falls City Brewing - Louisville

Goodwood Brewing Company - Louisville

Alltech - Lexington

Red Ear Brewing* - Covington (Out of Business)

West 6th - Lexington

Brewpub:

Beer Engine - Danville

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse** - Multiple Locations

Bluegrass Brewing Company - Louisville

Dry Ground Brewing - Paducah

Ethereal Brewing - Lexington

Gordon Biersch** - Louisville

Hofbrauhaus** - Newport

Paducah Beer Weks - Paducah

RoosterBrew - Paris

White Squirrel Brewery - Bowling Green

Combination Brewery & Brewpub:

Blue Stallion Brewing - Lexington

Braxton Brewing* - Covington

Cumberland Brewing* - Louisville

Great Flood Brewing - Louisville

* No bottled/canned distribution. Draft beer distribution only.

** Part of a chain.

In NKY, Braxton and 8 Ball in Bellevue at the Party Source are both relatively new.

CWB for the sake of your list, I have seen offerings from both breweries on tap at different bars and restaurants outside of their respective taprooms.

That was what my intention was or the asterisk...no bottled/canned distribution - kegs only. I'll edit to clarify that.
