YC, how did the Saturday evening game turn out for Cooper? I had to head for home. The boys were famished and I had been gone since 6:30 am. Thanks for stopping by the Boone game to chat.

Led most of the match but gave away a goal in the second half, still came away with a 2-1 win.

 

They tried a different formation this match, it seemed to suit them much better and I thought it allowed them to play to their strengths a little more and the offense was much more dangerous than they were in the first two matches.

 

All in all, a good weekend. The coaches were able to see several different combinations on the pitch and this should help them make some decisions on how, and with who, they move forward with on Varsity this season.

 

Great seeing, and chatting with you again, lots for you to be proud with both of your kids. :thumb:

Boone played Dunbar and lost 2-0. Boone played well and actually probably possessed the ball more than Dunbar in the first 25 minutes of the game. Even though they lost I think there was a feeling that things went well and there is the potential for improvement on the team and playing good soccer. The Keeper played a tremendous game and saved several scores. Incidently, the backup goalie for Boone started the second half. He wasn't in five minutes when a Dunbar player made a run at the goal. Keep scooped up the ball in his arms and the Dunbar ran through running into the Keep and threw an elbow into the keep's head. Keep had to come out of the game and did not return in this game or the next. A yellow card was issued.

 

Boone lost 3-0 to Daviess County. There was a let down in this game but the coach put in substitutes pretty quickly and did lots of substituting throughout the game giving multiple players game time and limiting the game time of many of the starters.

 

I think this was a productive weekend for the coach to see what he has and how to proceed from here. It was productive for the boys because they played a good Dunbar team and see they can compete with them. I think after this team gets some experience together as a team they will be much improved.

Good showing by Boone vs Dunbar! Dunbar has a strong program, as they were in the Sweet 16 last season.

1 flipped over his handle bars last week and had to get stitches and sat it out. The other played. He did well. He hustled. He played striker a lot and his inexperience showed w runs and holding play up. Just bc you are within 20 yards of the goal doesn't mean that'll you have to take on 3 defenders..hold it up, pass and move, you know. He is learning and I really liked that he didn't back down.

 

As a team they played better today. They lost 2 to nil to North Hardin. North Hardin spaces the field really wwell and, I thought, was a very good team for JV. Highlands played up to 5 8th graders at a time and at a couple of points had all Frosh and 8th graders in. Their goalie was an 8th grader. I think that none of them were intimidated and all hustled. Just a matter of everyone getting used to each other.

May have been mentioned already but who is on Boone's new coaching staff? Head coach, etc.?

 

Boone's coaching staff? Yes, I'd like to know also. I talked to the head coach briefly. His name is Chris Norris. I wish he'd put together a "meet n greet" so the parents would get better information (ever try to ask a teen for an answer?). "I dunno" is the name of the rest of the coaching staff if I am to believe my son.

 

Last night there were several coaches on the field with the team. The head coach, a second coach that said he was helping the goal keepers, a third coach who helped the keepers last year, and one guy who has been helping out was not there last night but is a parent who volunteered his services. As far as who is the JV and Frosh coaches, let me mimic my son :idunno:

Okay, here's what I've been able to find out so far... Coach Norris has not named anyone else as JV coach or Freshman coach. One of the guys helping out with the Keepers is a friend of his from before. Another helper is a parent of current player. Most of those I asked seem to think Coach Norris is going to function as the coach for all three levels--frosh, jv, and varsity. How that will actually work out for future practices and during games, I am not sure. BTW, I like what I see from the coach so far.

 

I will stay on the case but I have to tell you that I charge $200 a day plus expenses. I'm also going to have to involve Angel--in this case Angel is my wife. She has less facial hair than the original and isn't such a louse (please don't tell her I've spoken so highly of her). I'll report back later.

Even better then. Long enough to be very impressive, but not not so long as to be cocky or ill-advised. Great technique at any distance. Admittedly I was further from the field.

It was the talk of the car ride to the pool. A couple of boys saw it while in their bus. It is something of legend...as the kids say,"That was a SICK goal."

I heard Mike is helping out with Cooper keepers. Makes sense as I think Mike was a keeper himself. He loves the game and working with the kids. I would think that if/when he wants to get back into a head coaching position he'll have options. A change of pace in the interim that keeps him connected doesn't strike me as odd or funny.
