And the community of Fort Thomas has a great history, 50+ years of outstanding little league football program for kids grades 3 thru 8. Net an established feeder program for Highlands....so there has been no need for middle school team.

However, last few years, as mentioned prior - football and safety concerns..has led to sweeping changes (shall we say) and it is impacting the numbers across board - and at the 7th/8th grade level - league is dealing w/concussion safety theme woven into the fabric of sport now...and separating the 8th graders from 7th graders is proper initiative - and the NKY league is good option.

 

So let me ask this, the size difference is such a concern between 7th and 8th grade, but its ok between 9th and 12th?

Great question - i have no idea - no authority here...I'm purely making comments on what I've observed over the last few years...speculation...PLUS - not much PT for majority of 7th graders...could lead to quiting sport...again - not sure why now the league is doing this. Again, watching the games and practices over last few years - something had to be done...

K well no clue what Fort Thomas is planning with their teams...we shall see..

Why doesn't FTH have a middle school program? Seems like that's the better option than playing in a booster league.

Not a shot at FTJYF or whatever you guys call it. I hear that it's a well run league. My intent was that a solid MS program would better prepare kids for the HS program. Fortunately, I believe that FT runs H's offense and defense (so I've been told) so you don't get the nonsense you see at someplace like south Kenton in NKYFL.

Nonsense at South Kenton? You should have been at the South Kenton meeting when Marksberry talked. He said his main goal was that alot of kids get playing time and South Kenton has done that. The main goal is to get the kids on the field and playing getting them better and ready for Varsity football. South Kenton kids are more prepared then the kids that play middle school ball.

But guys like Dillon Powell, The Mueller's, and many others would disagree. The NKYFL Senior Division in general is falling further and further behind middle school football, especially as many teams don't even field a senior division anymore. And both of SK's middle school teams (Twenhofel and SVA) are well coached.

Cameron Racke, Kyle Heflin, Mikey Krallman, Markie Rider, David Sandlin, Stringer from Beechwood and Kuntz played there a few years.

Perfect example SK Freshman team 4 best players came from South Kenton Senior team.

Again, I can name just as many that didn't, going all the way back to Chad Lawrence (just check out the names on the two championship banners in Summit Views gym, which I'm sure you've seen). And didn't Racke skip the NKYFL and play freshman ball as an 8th grader??
