June 30, 201511 yr Author I went through the same process and have absolutely no problem with it. It's a normal progression if you want to move up the ladder. Agreed, but at some point when 45 hours turns into 55 or 60 then something should be done to offset that extra time. I understand that some people would milk the time to get the OT pay, but many many companies abuse the hours of lower level managers and salaried employees.
June 30, 201511 yr They could find a new one right? Sure it's possible. It's also possible they go six months (or longer) without finding a new job.
June 30, 201511 yr There was really no benefit to me becoming salary other than more vacation time. Small bump in pay, but not more than I was making with OT before. I get two weeks paid vacation (can actually accrue to up 120 hours), but you don't get it automatically. You have to accrue it before you can use it. So now I'm stupid because I took a salaried position instead of quitting? :lol2: Did I say you were stupid, no. You yourself said you got more vacation time by going salary, that must have been a benefit you wanted. You made that choice, whether it is right or not is really up to you and your situation.
June 30, 201511 yr Author They could find a new one right? In the Utopia that you seem to live in, they would just walk in next door and get a job as a donut or pillow tester making twice the money in half the hours. In the real world it's not as easy to walk away from a job, especially if you have a family depending on your paycheck.

If your working 55-60 hours for the price of 40 on a regular basis, I really would have to question that person's mentality as to why there were still working there.
June 30, 201511 yr Author I agree, every company has those "not so bright employees." Very condescending today...you need to eat a Snickers!

Are you upset that people who work significant hours want to be compensated?

Your getting paid for 48, but due to a busy season you have to work extra because you are a manager...you don't think they should be compensated for that extra time and should just quit their job. #LetThemEatCake

In the real world it's not as easy to walk away from a job, especially if you have a family depending on your paycheck. Your missing the point, these situations all revolve around one thing, employees choice. The employee chooses to work for that employer. There is nothing say, you have to work there. If the employee doesnt have the skills to work for another employer, is that on the employee? I don't understand where the mentality of "the company must treat me better and change their ways" comes from.

June 30, 201511 yr I'm not sure what your beef with this plan is? Are you upset that people who work significant hours want to be compensated? My beef is that you make this out to be a company issue, as in its the companys fault I work 60 hours but only get paid for 40. Its not, you as the employee chose to work their.

Your view of reality is distorted. People don't just walk away from decent jobs because of the hours. It's not that simple.

I understand that some people would milk the time to get the OT pay, but many many companies abuse the hours of lower level managers and salaried employees. No doubt which is why those employees should take the opportunity to learn and then move to another position when the time comes. Unfortunately the time never comes for many, either through a lack of competition or an unwillingness to jump ship.

The employee was also told how they were going to be paid for said time. If a company compensates for that extra time, great. If they dont, you knew that going in. Dont blame the company because you choose to work their.
June 30, 201511 yr When was the last time you had to look for a job? Ive been at my current job since 2012.
