June 29, 201511 yr I have watched only 3 space launches in real time over the past 30 years. 3) Yesterday's explosion of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. 2) Last October's explosion of the Antares cargo mission. 1) The 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. I think I may be the problem. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/28/us-space-spacex-launch-idUSKCN0P80NM20150628
June 29, 201511 yr Author Were you at the Challenger launch? No. I watched it on tv as it was happening.
June 29, 201511 yr No. I watched it on tv as it was happening. I only ask because I thought that I had seen it live, too, as a 6th grader home on a snow day. Years later I learned that only CNN carried the launch live that day and we definitely didn't have CNN, so I didn't see it live. I guess whatever I was watching cut away to the coverage after it happened and replayed it. Nevertheless, it was devastating for me, as a kid that loved astronomy and followed the shuttle program.

Captain formed us up and informed us the space shuttle had blown up.
