Any thoughs on how to improve the NKY Jr/Sr All-Star games

Featured Replies

In speaking with event coordinator, Kevin Rengering, he asked if their were any ways to improve the event. So I'm bringing the question to you the fans, parents, coaches, etc......

My idea for next year is to have a Homerun hitting contest in between the two games. Next year you have some girls that can definitely give the ball a ride.....

Shelby Graybill - Highlands

Haley Meyers - Newport Catholic

McKenzi Dickerson - Ryle

Gabby Stewart - St. Henry

Angela Huston - Notre Dame

That right there is a good field.

Can my DD come out of retirement and participate in this? Your a year too late LB :banghead:

My DD said it would be nice to at least have one practice or a profile sheet for the coaches. She mentioned it felt unorganized from a player standpoint (who plays where, etc)

I would pass on any skills contest.

The game is why people show up.

The thought of a sheet with all the players is a good ideal and one practice is also a good ideal, the problem being is school is out and hard to get everyone together, I was an assistant coach with last years Junior squad, it is a little crazy, last year we had no catcher, none, so we had one of our ladies from Cooper catch, she had not caught for a couple of years, a lot of times you have to play people out of position, but no ones seems to mind, all and all it is a great event and not much needed to tweek it, I like the Hr ideal also, you would just have to limit the pitches and players or it could take forever, all in all great job to everyone involved.

I thought it was great. Sometimes you get lopsided at certain positions and I guess depending on the year, pitching could be lopsided, but its an all-star game, not the 9th region championship---its all fun.

Didn't bother DLG, she played every position in 4 years. :lol2: However I know what you mean, I stopped in the dugout to talk with Beth Hunt before the game and she said, "I got more pitchers and catchers then I know what to do with". Most of these girls are good enough athletes and can play out of position for one game without making it a mockery.

I would limit the number of participants, 4 or 5 tops. I would have someone pitching "slow-pitch" style and give them 7 outs. Or maybe set up a pitching machine and do the same, 7 outs.

I can take care of that for next year.

Didn't she already participate in Graybill's HR contest ?

I am with Clyde that I would not do the individual competitions, takes away from the event, which is the game.

Totally agree.

I don't think it would take away from the game at all. I think some of these young ladies would like to showcase their power for a bigger audience.

A couple thoughts....

Come up with a player pool with stated positions for each player. Assign a coach(s) for each team. Have a draft by those coaches out of the player pool. Dont tie it down to what district each player is from. Include as many schools as possible. Do this for both junior and senior teams. It should spread the talent out proportionately and should give a balanced game.

Possibly in the junior game...make it juniors thru freshman eligible for the draft and/or game

Allow selected teams to have a practice/meeting at least once before actual game.

If the first game is at 5, the second game should be no later than 7.

To raise money we could also have a Lawnboy dunking booth set up in the parking lot for parents (and players if they'd like)
