Does the fact that I don't think gay marriage is a sin or that I think women should be allowed to be priests make me a bad Catholic or any less of one than someone who just says "well, that's what the church teaches so, yep that's what I believe."? I don't think so.

There are a bunch of different God's that are worshiped (although all have some common threads), and the one you (not directed specifically at you) believe in and the way you worship Him, is largely dependent on what part of the world your parents were born in. And I know that I'm opening up a whole can of worms, but who's to say that one set of beliefs is necessarily the correct ideology? This randomness is what makes it difficult for me to use religion as a reason to support/disapprove an issue like gay marriage.

 

Everyone can believe in (I put this in very, very loose quotes) "my" God without knowing.

 

A Muslim or atheist can serve "my" God without knowing. I agree with that.

 

But the point for Catholics whose beliefs are in line with the Vatican is that we believe that "our" God is the one, true God. Yes, other religions (or "Gods," you might say) can contain elements of Truth, but it is our beliefs that we believe in the true God.

This is not a huge issue to me unless the LGBT Nazis try to force religious institutions to perform same sex marriages.

People are saying that consenting adults should be allowed to marry. In what world does consenting adults even begin to include animals?

 

So this discounts the whole argument I have heard recently that since homosexuality exists in the animal world that that is a definite sign that it is a biological trait.

Yeah but no one ever tries to claim that God loves divorce or that divorce is natural.

Oh, please. We all live in sin daily.

 

I enjoy debating people on religious topics, and one thing I always ask them "Why do you think that you will end up in Heaven?" They start to innocently rattle off, well I do this, and that. Then I inform them that they will end up in Heaven because of Christ, He died for us, and our sins, He is the reason you will end up in Heaven.

 

Also, as Padre Pio said "As long as you are afraid to fall, you will not sin". He meant that one should not be afraid to live, as we all sin. And don't dwell over your sins, that is satan, he is causing you to feel bad and dwell on your sins. Why dwell on it when Christ has already forgiven you?

This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

You'll strongly disagree with me on this. But to me: calling oneself Catholic involves agreeing with the Vatican on these issues among other things.

 

The thing is most Catholics are not in line with the Vatican, I don't think even the most devout Catholic in the U.S., the area, or even this board is 100% in line. Heck, there are people who think they are the most holy people but they reject anything from Vatican II on, including all Popes since Vatican II.

 

It disgusts me that Catholics don't fight over each other to get inside the Church, as the Mass is when Heaven and Earth meet, you have Christ Himself present, yet people act like it's no big deal to be the presence of Christ?

Same here. What two consenting adults want to do is not a big deal to me and I don't care what term is used for the union.
