So I have a question for the CovCath faithful, what happened to Piccirillo? Is he not good enough to play on this team? What about the Epplen kid?

 

Piccirillo is a junior and will have a chance to compete for an OF job next season. I think two of the three spots are open due to graduation.

SAC bunt back to the mound. Ruwe made the right decision to go to 2nd but his throw was wide.

SAC bunt down the 3rd base line. Ruwe threw to first. Throw was low. Should be have been caught or at least blocked. Throw gets past the fielder and the winning run scored.

This kind of play is not uncommon in high school......makes the games unpredictable and entertaining.

Who is Epplen?

 

Played JV at CovCath last year. Dad and Grandpa are involved with Covington Knothole. Perhaps he did not tryout this year.

Andrew? I thought he was a soccer player. The whole Epplen family is very involved in Knothole around NKY, though...as well as Cov Cath.

Andrew may have been a victim of numbers this year. He is an outfielder and 2 of the 3 outfield positions were filled by seniors. The remaining outfield position was originally filled by Pitzer (4 hole hitter) and then by McGinness (hit over .400 for most of the year). Other outfielders were most likely faster than Andrew since they were used primarily as pinch runners throughout the year (Caldon and Rose). Andrew is a very talented soccer player. Look for him to make some noise on the pitch this fall.
