May 10, 201511 yr Author Page is like a great watercolor artist. The watercolor artist really cannot control his medium, he lets it flow where it wants and improvises. Page just paints with his guitar. Pages playing hits the sweet spot. It's just a ride to get there! His playing is rushed and that builds a nervousness in his style.
May 10, 201511 yr Jimmy in the studio is differnt from Jimmy live. Some of the bootleg stuff is bad. Hes all over the place. Still Led Zeppelin 1, still sounds fresh to me. Doesn't sound like it was recorded in 1968. Put on the alumb for the first time and Good Times Bad times had me hooked. The solo in that song are fingers on a chalkboard but it works! It seems to pain him to bend the stings to the corect pitch. Too flat or to sharp. Am I the only one who had to pause for a moment because I read this as "aplomb" on the first pass?
May 10, 201511 yr Am I the only one who had to pause for a moment because I read this as "aplomb" on the first pass? Nope. The brain is a funny thing, ain't it?
May 10, 201511 yr Nope. The brain is a funny thing, ain't it? I must have seen the word used somewhere else this morning in the Sunday paper.
May 10, 201511 yr I must have seen the word used somewhere else this morning in the Sunday paper. I just saw it exactly as you described it and had to double take, simply because I don't know what aplomb means. I'm afraid that happens to me an lot, and more as I grow older.
May 12, 201511 yr I have a hard time watching him when he plays. The puffy face he makes throws me off.
May 12, 201511 yr Call him sloppy, call him rushed, call him whatever you like. I simply call him one of the greatest ever.
May 13, 201511 yr Author He's sloppy. Sloppy greatness! It's his slop that is so good. I jam with a few guys. Sometimes we start our lets play like Page. I can't keep it up long. To many what I call Jimmy pull off licks and Jimmy triplet runs. Lol.
