Absolutely not, if anything it needs to start later.

Then again, I'm one for football, basketball and baseball all having their opening week(end) dates moved back at least another week or two (I'd be all for this), but that's for another thread.

i have heard a lot of people who would love to flip baseball and football

Not happening. Doesn't need to happen.

Football could solve a lot of problems with the opening start date (for games) being moved back to Labor Day or the week after (like it used to be) like some states still do.

I personally don't understand why baseball (and, basketball) feel like they need to have 30 game regular seasons. I get the argument for baseball because so many are rained out, but why not a 20 game regular season? Take a pick of varsity games being played on Monday/Tues/Friday's (Varsity Football gets Thursday/Friday/Saturday) & use the other days of the week to allow make ups.

....but, cutting back to only 20 guaranteed games would mean more time to practice & after all, who the hell wants to do that?!

I have never ever once heard that until you said it. Guess maybe I should get out more?

While I wish I could have played more games, I agree we try to squeeze to many games in. Where I'm from we started later, (although to be fair, school ended around June 10-15th), and played less games. My senior year, we made it to the state Semi's and only played 21 games. We played every Tuesday and Thursday, with a couple Saturday games thrown in, for an 18 game regular season. I think the season could stand to be a little longer than that....20-24 games sounds about right. No need to try to squeeze almost 40 games in.

I think part of the problem with our sports seasons starting so early is the fact that school starts so early. As was mentioned...star after Labor Day, get rid of fall break, end in the second week of June. Football starts August 1st, with the first game The first week of school (which would help attendance and heat issues), baseball starts March 1st (which helps weather problems)

It was moved up a few years ago. It doesn't need to be any earlier than it is now.

If you move it up you will get more threads like:

How cold is it to be too cold to play a game?

Allow practices to start Feb 15. Allow teams to have up to 4 scrimmages from March 15 - March 31. Regular season games start April 1st. Move Playoffs back 2 weeks.

Start practices Feb. 1. Let games begin on March 15 (if allowable due to weather). There are days in February and March that get above 50 degrees. This year was the exception to the weather rule due to the abundance of snow and extremely cold weather. Can schedule games and always cancel them.

Listen, under the new rules, baseball is year round for those that want it to be.

Another huge issue with moving the season up, is when would tryouts be? Late January?

Allowing high school baseball start earlier by two weeks is ridiculous. It's way too cold for anyone to be outside, and why waste a game when your boys can't feel their fingers?

I'd agree except that would put the end of the season in late June, which is about a month after school ends. Unless the start of the school year got pushed back 3 weeks (which I think it should), I don't see that this will ever happen.

It already ends after school is out, what is a couple more weeks?

Currently that's true only for teams that either advance deep into the region tourney, or make it to state. This would push almost everyone beyond the end of school. You'll run into problems with vacations (and that includes umpires), college orientations (for seniors) etc. It also creates possible issues with heat rules, and very little time to make up games. It's easy to say "what's a few more weeks", but extending the season that far beyond school for every team in the state is bound to create problems.
