Has Peko played his last snap for the Bengals?

Featured Replies

We speculated about this in the Pat Sims thread and here is more speculation from Cincy Jungle:

If the Bengals draft a DT in the first round (or even in the second), you really have to wonder whether Peko survives. They already look set to keep 5 DE's (if they feel strongly about Clarke's future) so there can only be room for 4 DT's: Atkins, draft pick, Thompson, Sims/Still/Peko. If any of those two guys show enough in camp, it's hard to imagine the team keeping Peko around. Over the last four years, DT total snaps have been around 1800. When healthy, Atkins averages 760 snaps. Thompson is currently a 300-snap player but could take on more like he did in '13 when Atkins was on IR (went up to almost 400). Sims played nearly 500 and 700 snaps respectively in Oakland the last two years so if he makes the squad you can assume he can cover 500 snaps. That leaves 200 snaps for a rookie DT which is likely well within the "Marvin limit".

Domata Peko not as safe as we all assume? - Cincy Jungle

I would hate to see Peko go just because I really like him but the numbers don't make sense any longer.

I wonder if Peko could be faced with take a pay cut or be cut.

Anyone?

I don't have any stats that back this up but just from watching the games Peko sure does not look very productive anymore. It would not surprise me at all to see him gone.

I think his role in 2015 is #4 in the DT rotation at the vet minimum.

And to answer your questions, Peko is very good in short bursts.

He is such an asset in the locker room it seems by reports, but you have to perform. If he doesn't perform, I am afraid he is gone as a player ghere. he could be picked p somewhere in an emergency. Not sure if Zimmer likes him or not.

Also from the article:

The whole concept of "locker-room presence" is overstated especially when you have other players who provide that same presence. This isn't the Palmer-Johnson Bengals that were always on the verge of self-destruction so I think this is one insurance policy they can cancel if it comes down to it.

If the decision is on field performance, I'd take Peko over Still. Love the Still story and hope he makes it but .....

My thoughts have Peko at #4 and Still at #5 . Sims at #3 , Thompson #2 .

Sounds about right. Peko is working his way out of the rotation but it's going to take an impressive effort for someone to displace one of Marvin's' favorites.

They will keep Peko with Atkins having a bad year. I think they keep Atkins, Sims, Peko and a draft pick. Thompson and Still haven't done much. Geathers will probably go to the practice squad. Plus Peko also plays FB down on the goal line.

No way Thompson is #2 he hasn't done much. I think Sims will start.

I can see Sims starting and Thompson rotating but no matter how we do it, this should be a four man rotation every game.

Thompson has basically been their 2nd best DT over the last two years. He filled in very well for Atkins when Atkins tore his ACL two years ago, and when he was healthy last year played solid too.

2014 tackles last year.

Thompson had 21 and 1 sack

Still had 19 tackles.

Atkins had 34 tackles and 3 sacks.

Peko had 47 tackles and 1 sack.

2013 tackles

Peko 52 tackles 3 sacks.

Thompson 23 tackles 1.5 sacks.

Atkins 20 tackles 6 sacks

Still 7 tackles

It isn't always about the tackles as a defensive tackle. The Bengals defense last year was at its best when Thomson played
