Wayne County 61 West Jessamine 58 (12th Region Quarterfinal)

Featured Replies

I'm more bothered by the mental errors made by West Jessamine in the last 9 seconds than I am with whether or not this shot was good. I feel horrible for the kids at West Jessamine as this was a game for their taking and they lost. The kid collapsing at halfcourt bothered me and I feel for him.

Coach Kelley for West called a timeout and 1 second was put on the clock. I guess their plan was to throw it to half court and try to turn and shoot but the throw was tailing and went out of bounds of a West hand. If that time isn't put on the clock none of this happens. Just a heartbreaking way to lose, especially considering Wayne beat West on a three at the buzzer two years ago, also by Peyton Woods.

Yes, he was out with an injury. Hurt his shoulder in practice on Friday. I was told he would be seeing a doctor over the weekend to determine his status for Monday.

Oh ok cool, I don't think I ever saw a reason as to why he was out. But, I was also in Nashville all weekend and haven't been able to keep up. Thanks for the update :thumb:

You going tomorrow night? Should be a very good night of basketball.

It looks like I'll have to help coach soccer tomorrow unless something changes.

If you can't go, tune in to WPBK-FM 102.9 tomorrow night after the game for the postgame show. Goes for an hour+ after the games. Probably will start around 9:30.

So, I guess I can assume he wasn't out with an injury. That's what I was wondering.

As was said it was an injury and I'll be shocked if he doesn't play tomorrow night but no one who knows for sure is going to say a word on here. I'll find out when I arrive at Lincoln County.

That's too bad. I was planning on going, but not sure if I want to skip out early and drive an hour and a half with it being likely Wayne is without Stearns.

Does it seem likely to be competitive if Stearns is out?

Absolutely. Both games tonight should be very competitive and the atmosphere will be top notch.

Any need to get there early to ensure getting in?

Yes. All four teams that play tonight will bring large crowds. I wouldn't be surprised if the gym is close to being packed by 5:30-5:40pm.

I was talking to a wayne parent and he told me Stearns popped his shoulder out and it had to be popped back in. I asked him the same question. If he was out just tonite or the whole tourny. He said he was told most likely whole tourny. He said coach should have just had a walk thru friday in hindsight.

That's where the weather is/was an issue. You normally would have had a walk-through, but missing school and missing games gets you out of rhythm. A regular practice, during bad weather, likely has to take the place of a game. Kind of a Catch-22.

The miracles never cease...soccer practice has been cancelled so I will be able to attend tonight after all. :thumb:

Hindsight is 20/20. I'd say most teams in the state had a regular practice the day before the game. Freak accidents happen and I hope he heals properly and can play in the tourney.
