March 3, 201511 yr Author Question - Why would Price come out this early and say that Cozart is the starter at ss, hands down?? Since Cozart had such a lousy year at the plate, would you not want the ss you brought over from Detroit to at the very least provide some competition for Cozart to try and bring out the best in him? I'm assuming it's because defensively there's not really anyone better than Cozart. Assuming everyone else is healthy, offensive production from that spot is pretty much an afterthought.

Since Cozart had such a lousy year at the plate, would you not want the ss you brought over from Detroit to at the very least provide some competition for Cozart to try and bring out the best in him? My question is why do people care so much about Zach Cozart? Not you, but people on twitter and on the radio obsess over this guy. Give me glove over bat any day, especially like UKMF said if everyone else does their job it's irrelevant. Plenty of good teams that win with plus glove and weak bat SS.

The only time I usually complain about Cozart is when he is at the top of the order, if he bats 8 people usually can live with his production.
March 3, 201511 yr Pena, Negron, whoever makes it from the Utility spot. If we have to worry about someone playing 1B that many times this year we will have plenty of other problems. Exactly, like what can we get from Aroldis and Bailey at the trade deadline.
March 3, 201511 yr If these guys can stay healthy, they can be a very good team offensively, amazing what Byrd adds to the lineup. The only problem is they have no depth again and if someone goes down, this team will be screwed.

I totally agree that if you hit him 8th, there is not as much concern especially since he is really good defensively. I am more speaking of using the kid from Detroit to push him to be better and give him some sort of competition. Why would Price not use that to his advantage to make sure that Cozart keeps working to improve. He comes out before a pitch has been thrown in the pre-season and says that Cozart has no competition. Coaching 101.
March 8, 201511 yr 46 pitches? Probably but I didn't see a pitch count. Vote went 1-2 in his start for those that care.
