Greenup County 49 Lewis County 48 (63rd District Semifinals)

Featured Replies

First, Congrats to Greenup Co. on last night's win. It should make for a great District Championship game!

I have no dog in this fight so I'm not going to attack anyone! My question is "Wasn't Greenup one of the better teams heading into this season?" I thought in the pre-season they were favored to win the District and challenge for a Regional title.

Greenup was picked 3rd and Ashland 4th. And both are 2 of 8 teams still standing. Both with chances to win their respective districts.

Sounds like this was a dandy. My Lions will be back stronger next year, as they only lose two key contributors from this year's team.

One thing not mentioned was LCs constant flaw of attacking big Jackson in the paint . Seemed like they shot a dozen pocessions away by shooting shots into his armpits or elbows . I'd guess he had 10 blocks .

Oh I'll keep reading. Your stuff is way too good to pass up. Can't wait til the next coach comes around and a new (but exactly the same) class of GC parents comes along. Par for the course.

Hey, congratulations to coach Tackett and his kids for punching your ticket to Morehead. Good luck in the district final.

The problem is the people from Greenup who think like you, with the same old thing Greenup always underachieve . That needs to change as much as the coach does. Greenup has won in the past , made the sweet 16 a handful of times , and the Baseball team wins a lot every year. They have a great coach and staff, who know the game , work hard, teach the game and win.. So it is very possible to win at Greenup. Harold is not the guy, I think a new coach would be a good start, and after a few years, if he doesn't cut it , find another. The 1 year and done before Harold was just crazy, 2 of them would have been good to keep, my choice was Nickel. Congrats to the kids on the win, Greenup is very capable of betting Raceland. I`m not a fan of the loose and move on, so I feel Greenup needs to win. In my OP not much to cheer about if you loose, even if you move on.

Picked 3rd ,ended up 10th or so. Need I say more. And my Op Ashland was over rated based on past seasons, that got them a high preseason rank. I think Ashland was going to have a some what down year,, just not what it was. Talent is down and they play some tuff teams.

Ashland was overrated and Greenup wasn't. Got it.

No Greenup wasn't, the other coaches could see the talent Greenup has, a poor job using it. And Ashland wins every year, so I think they figured they would this year. Ashland`s talent is down a bit this year, in my op. That's how I came up with that. If a team wins a lot year after year it seem s no matter what they get a good preseason rank. happens in a lot of sports..

My next question "If Greenup Co. was suppose to be one of the top three or four teams in the Region, what is the big deal about qualifying for the Regionals?" Isn't that what was expected?

Yes it is, but a 11-16 in regular season , is not real good. Making the regionals is big, but in my op only if you win the district championship , you do move on if you loose , but to me that doesn't seem right. I`m glad they won last night, but it was very lucky. But a win is a win. I feel if your a top team you win 20 to 25 games not 11. Then slid by a 11 win Lewis Co team in district seim . With such high expectations , it`s hard to take a 11 win season. I hope that helped explain.

The good news GC: GC wins (or should I say LC gave the win to GC) has a chance for District Championship, and automatically moves on to the Region Tournament win or loose on Friday

The bad news for GC: They still have a terrible coach leading them into the Regional Tournament AND GC's win probably secures Tackett's job for another year no matter the outcome in the Regional Tournament :ohbrother::idunno:

The good new for the rest of the 16th Region: someone gets to play GC in the Regional Tournament AND Tackett is back again next year :banana:

I am not the most knowledgable person when it comes to Region 16 basketball. But I did talk to somebody that is very familiar with what is happening there! He anticipates there will be a number of changes within the District 16 coaching ranks. He thought GC might be one of those changes.

Jmho but the bashing isn't bashing if it's backed by truth and facts . And right here I'll admit after watching GC play they don't have much talent . Or not as much as I thought . Enough to go better than their current record but they have at most 3 good players and 1 decent player and that's all Coach has to work with . Now having said that I would have serious issues with if I were a GC fan . Not opinion but fact here : L C chose a wise approach on D -- zone up and sag sag sag .. So Tackett buries Wireman on the bench ? Doesn't start him nor play him much while starting a kid In His place that can't shoot a bit . That gives GC 2 scorers in the game . So at the half GC has 15 points and down 10 . Why not have your best or second best shooter in the game to extend the D some and create some space I side for big Jackson ?

Lightning struck last night , it was one of those one in a lifetime, never ever happen again finishes . LC gave the game away at the line .they had a 4 point lead with 14 seconds while shooting FT throws . Nothing Tackett did helped GC gain any tactical advantage . So yeah , they won the game fair and square , but it wouldn't change my outlook if I were a GC backer about the ability of the head guy to turn the program around and start being a threat in the district , let alone the region .

Let me start by saying that I know nothing about GC....with that being said, are you guys in school with these kids or in practice everyday? Do you know about kids' attitudes in practice, if they are getting in trouble in school, if they are good teammates, coachable in practice, do they respect the coaching staff and do what they are asked behind closed doors?

All of those can be HUGE factors when it comes to playing time. Just because you know a kid is better than the one playing ahead of him does not mean that he should be out there. Are we forgetting that this is high school and that coaches are shaping young men for the future? Sometimes playing time is the only way to reach a kid and to get him to understand that attitude and effort matter in practice and in the classroom. I just think it is very short sighted to think just because you know that the kids on the bench have more talent than the ones playing that they should automatically be in the game.

It's also a bit cheap in my opinion to blame all the team's shortcomings and losses on the coach, but when they win you guys act like it was in spite of him. You can't have it both ways. Again, I know nothing about the school, team or coach, but just would like to know how close you guys actually are to the program to make the statements that you make. I understand being disappointed when you feel your team should have a better record, but sometimes the issues are deeper than just rolling a ball out and letting your best five players play.

Russell started it by letting go their coach already, only a day or two after loosing first round of Districts.
