Making a mistake does not make her stupid. What is wrong with her being sorry for offending somebody, albeit unintentionally?

 

Because even after being told of her gaffe her apology wasn't that she used a word she had no business using it was that she was sorry if she offended anyone. It wasn't until the next morning that she acknowledged using a word she had no business using.

Because white people want to use it and can't. Not because they like the word, but because they don't like that a black man can say something a white man can't.

I still don't get that mindset. Either something is offensive or it isn't. I get why it's more offensive from one group, but still, either it's offensive or it isn't.

But in your post you said you guarantee there are people that DO think the two words are related. So, IF that is actually the case (some people think they are related) and black people use and have no problem with the word "jiggy" even when used by whites, then it would be logical for them to conclude blacks wouldn't have a problem with the other word, correct? Especially if they didn't know the history of the derogatory nature of the word, if nothing else because of pure ignorance.

 

I'm not arguing for the use of the word. I grew up hearing it from time to time and knew and know the negative nature of the word, don't use it and haven't heard it used in a long time. But there are a lot of people who either haven't heard it (as proved just in this thread) or if they have don't know it's background and it's use as a racist term.

What "mistake" did she make? She chose to use a word that she had no idea what it meant. That's a choice, not a mistake. A stupid choice.

Most of us are not bothered by that word, its the whites who tell us when we should be offended like they walked in our shoes that is offensive. If you are white, don't tell me I should be offended. I'm not by this woman's words, she made a mistake and let it go.

People can call me what they want to call me, not going to hurt me one way or another. I would rather hear their truthful thoughts than some hidden nice words then rip me behind my back.

Of course. I don't know your defintion of a lot but sure. I'd say there are plenty who don't know the word. I'd say none of my kids do.
