SHS Future
45th District Tournament at Garrard County Lincoln County Patriots (21-5) (5-1) – Lincoln County won the coin flip and received the #1 seed in the 45th District tournament. They are the defending 45th District Tournament champions and play the winner of #4 seed Garrard County and #5 seed Kentucky School for the Deaf. The Patriots did not play KSD in the regular season and more than likely will be playing Garrard County which they defeated twice by 33 points each time. Lincoln County should have no problem getting to the finals of the 45th District and moving on to the 12th Region Tournament. Garrard County Golden Lions (5-21) (0-6) – #4 seed Garrard County did not win a game in the regular season against other 45th district opponents but the Golden Lions will be favored in the play in game versus #5 seed Kentucky School for the Deaf. If they win their opponent will be Lincoln County who the Golden Lions haven’t defeated since January 20, 2009. Kentucky School f/t Deaf Colonels (14-14) (0-0) – The Colonels did not play any district competition during the regular season and are not expected to beat Garrard County Monday night. But, for any history buffs, the last time KSD won a post season game was in 1981 when they defeated Garrard County 66-54 in the first round of the 45th District Tournament that was played at… Garrard County. Could history repeat itself? Boyle County Rebels (22-5) (5-1) – The Rebels are the #2 seed in the 45th District Tournament due to the coin flip and play the #3 seed Danville Admirals. Boyle County won both times they played the Admirals this year and are favored to win again Wednesday night. Don’t just assume the Rebels will advance because this is not only a district elimination game, but a cross town rivalry game where anything can happen on emotion and adrenaline alone. Danville Admirals (16-13) (2-4) – The #3 seed Danville Admirals would love to get the upset win versus cross town foe Boyle County in the first round 45th District elimination game. But, that’s a very difficult task for the Admirals since it has been since February 1, 2013, since they defeated Boyle County. However, the last time the 45th District Tournament was played in Garrard County in 2011, Danville defeated Boyle County in the first round. 45th District Tournament games: (All games played at Garrard County) Monday, February 23rd #4 Garrard County vs #5 Kentucky School f/t Deaf at 7:30 Wednesday, February 25th #1 Lincoln County vs #4 Garrard County/#5 KSD winner at 6:00 #2 Boyle County vs #3 Danville at 7:30 Friday, February 27th 45th District Championship game at 7:30 Potential championship game match-up: Both Lincoln County and Boyle County are favored in their first round district tournament match-ups and are picked to play in the 45th District championship game. This would be the rubber match for these two teams. The only district loss either team had during the regular season was against one another (both going 5-1 in district play). Lincoln County won the first game January 16, 2015, on their home court 66-55. In the second game, on January 30th, Boyle County won on their home court 65-42. Well, the potential 3rd game would be on a neutral court with the district title on the line. Players to watch: Jacob Conway (Senior) Lincoln County Timmy Taylor (senior) Lincoln County Hagen Tyler (Senior) Boyle County – 12th Region Player of the Year Jeremiah Bell (Senior) Boyle County Colton Elkins (Junior) Boyle County Cody Woolridge (Senior) Danville Spencer McKinney (Junior) Danville Slade Crutchfield (Junior) Garrard County Nick McCollum (Junior) Garrard County Dillon Maynard (Senior) Kentucky School f/t Deaf
PurplePride92
Should be a Lincoln County/Boyle County final. I think the Boyle County/Danville game will be closer than expected or a blowout. Boyle County was clearly the better team in both regular season matchups but as you said it is a crosstown rivalry and emotion and adrenaline can make crazy things happen. It should be a lot of fun. PurplePride92
102.9 WPBK-FM will be hosting post game shows throughout the district tournament beginning on Tuesday evening. I'm really looking forward to being a part of that and hopefully people will tune in to listen to Daniel Hopkins, Brad Smith and myself as we offer up analysis on the tournament, conduct interviews with winning coaches and possibly take phone calls. That is going to be a blast!!!

Could history repeat itself? Nice note on KSD. That 1980-81 team actually beat Garrard County twice, once in the regular season by three points and again in the district tournament. That was the only playoff game KSD has ever won. They would lose to Danville in the district final and then fell to Wayne County at the region. KSD was led by David Hamilton, who by all accounts was an absolute star. Hamilton was the Danville area player of the year and is now a coach at a deaf school in California. Larry Vaught tells the story that when KSD was introduced at the regional tournament that year, they received a very long standing ovation. I can't see KSD playing with Garrard this year. Numbers are always thin for the Colonels and while they typically field solid clubs that compete well against other deaf schools, they struggle in the 45th District. One thing you can be sure of, however, is they will bring a large crowd and will support their team/school until the final buzzer sounds!

David Hamilton was a super star. Football, Basketball, you name it. He was a supreme athlete. Boyle played Danville in the other semi-final and despite being heavy underdogs to 12th Regional Favorite Danville, the Rebels gave them a great game. I think Danville won by 2 if memory serves. Few remember that Boyle never won a 45th District Title from their inception in '64 to the late 80's or early 90's. I think their first was in that time frame. Lost many Title games and lost many times to Danville in the semi-finals when Boyle was the heavy favorite. (I remember the Team with the Smalley's and company devastating the Ads only to lose by 2 to Danville in the Semi's and go nowhere)

Boyle wouldn't win their first district title until 1991. They had lost six times in the district finals before their first win (1966, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982). PurplePride92
I'm sitting in Automate with the Boyle County scorebook keeper right now and he was just talking about when Boyle County won their first district title.
Porter
How about KSD in the late 90's, with Patrick Harris. Didn't they win the 4/5 game and make it to the region? Maybe 1998?

I was fortunate enough to be part of that squad! It was a great moment. 1991 with Paul Orberson as head coach and Mike Pittman as the assistant along with Doug Wesley. Porter
I'm remembering maybe mid 90's KSD won the 4/5 at Lincoln Co but lost in the semifinals. Anyone clarify that?

You might be thinking about 1996 when Danville beat them 79-74 at Lincoln County in the 4/5 game. There was talk that year that KSD could beat Danville but the Ads pulled it out. Also, in 2001 Casey County beat KSD by 12 in the 4/5 game and they played close with Garrard in 2010 before falling by 22.

They had lost six times in the district finals before their first win (1966, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982). Funny thing is little Junction City won three or four in their time.
