February 19, 201511 yr I have a little bit of a bittersweet UK fandom story that I thought some of you might enjoy. Most of you who know me well enough, know that my dad is a huge UK fan and has been all his life. But he's only been to Rupp for a game twice, both with me (dad turns 79 in Sept.). Like many of his generation, he'd probably rather just watch the game on his comfy couch and not have to deal with traffic or anything. We went to his 2nd game at Rupp last year and sat upstairs. After that, he said he didn't think he'd like to go anymore if we were going to sit upstairs, which for him, I can understand why. Through a connection, I was able to get dad two tickets for Christmas to the game Saturday night against Auburn, for the lower bowl, at a good price. We chose the Auburn game because it was pretty much the only home game that didn't conflict with my coaching schedule. We were both really excited to be going to Lex, sitting downstairs, and that only doubled when they announced they were retiring Tony Delk's jersey. Tony Delk was my favorite Wildcat when I was growing up. However, because of the snow, I had a game rescheduled for Saturday at 6pm that I just wouldn't feel right about skipping. I was extremely bummed because I love getting to go to Rupp, it's become a special treat. But even more so, to go with Dad because you just don't know how many more of those experiences you'll get together. Plus if they really get it done (40-0), it would have been great to say we saw them play live. Through talking with dad, we decided that since I can't skip out on my responsibilities, he should take my older half brother (quite a bit older than me). My half brother has never been to a game at Rupp and is a huge UK fan too. Dad said his voice cracked and he was basically jumping up and down with joy to get to go. So as much as it sucks that I have to miss out, I look at it as "everything happens for a reason" and I'm able to give both of them a great experience together. One that neither will ever forget. Now my players better get it done on Saturday haha!
February 19, 201511 yr At your Dad's age I totally understand that feeling, chair backs are a good thing.

Good luck on Saturday night and hopefully you are celebrating a championship and the Wildcats are celebrating another victory on the road to perfection.

Thanks for sharing!
February 20, 201511 yr I hope they have a great time. Rupp is probably my least favorite place to watch a game. I'd rather follow the cats on the road or neutral site or post season.
February 20, 201511 yr Agree with the above, I like the atmosphere but would much rather see them play elsewhere.
February 20, 201511 yr Author Ready for the real dagger folks. Because of the pending weather, the game just got moved again. And I could have gone to the Kentucky game.

February 20, 201511 yr Author Any tickets on stubhub? I don't know. I'm already dropping a nice chunk of change on the two tickets that my dad and half brother are using. Just funny how life plays out sometimes.

February 20, 201511 yr Author I need Queen Elsa to make the heavens open up and snow like crazy. Buddy said a woman at his work mentioned that she might not go to the game tomorrow if the weather is too bad and she's given him tickets in the past. So "you're telling me there's a chance" haha!
