Please rank your view on the top 5 catchers in the region. I am interested in seeing how you have them ranked.

 

Any discussion about top catchers in the 9th has to include Luke Hennigan from Highlands. The kid has been starting since 8th grade.

Heppler is a DH only and is slotted to be a DH this year as well. How could he be the best player returning?

Wow. They are really loaded in the Fort. Surely they will find another spot for him?

Yep, it'll be a shame for Doty if he doesn't get a lot of Varsity playing time... But Highlands has the opposite numbers problem of a team like Ludlow... I'm sure Coach Gray would rather have "too many" good players to find spots for, like HHS...

I don't disagree with that at all. But so did several other players on the team that are returning. He is one of the better players returning, not the best. I hope that he can find a spot on the field this year. Unfortunately he will be behind Nate Bailey at 1st base and I hope they use him on the mound. Will missed several games at the end of the year with a wrist injury.

Obviously "best" has many different meanings. He is the most talented IMO which leads me to the "best" label.

I understand where you are coming from. CCH has a solid group coming back from last year. Returning players from last year are Ruwe and Haughey at pitching, Bailey at 1st base, Galvin, played 2nd, 3rd, SS, OF and pitched and Heppler at DH. Several Sophomores got some time at the end of the year to fill in holes as needed.

That link is only mid season, not that it matters. I agree with Clyde, Will Heppler will be on the list, and will be the best hitter in the lineup. No reason a DH can't be considered the best player.

Clyde, who is the frosh catcher that is in the Midland program? Will he get time?

 

Alex Kennedy. Maher played for Kentucky Colonels.

The Boone catcher, Roedersheimer (sp?) should be mentioned with Purnell and Teegarden. Best catcher in the 9th region.

I would agree that Blake Rodersheimer was one of the best catchers last season if not the best. I would like to know how many kids stole bases against him last season. Also, A pitchers stats has a lot to do with the skill and knowledge of the catcher behind the plate. Boone had a few pitchers last season who had great seasons including NKY player of the year , Trey Ganns. A catcher can make or break a pitcher. He will be a hard player to replace behind the plate.

I've always liked Marshall Rich from Ryle. He hustles and is sound defensively.

Agreed. He played with my son in summer ball back in 2013. Plays the game the right way and has a solid skill set.

The top four catchers in the 9th are all Seniors and are all very good at what they do. Any team would be happy to have anyone of them behind the plate. Theses guys are all very solid behind the plate on defense, blocking, throwing and they can all hit.

 

1) Blake Roedersheimer - Boone

2) Luke Hennigan - Highlands

3) Jake Schmidt - Beechwood

4) Marshall Rich - Ryle

Freshman Adavion Gulley from Holmes

Lefty sweet swing and good arm hasn't played baseball in a few years because of AAU basketball but was an up and comer in Norwood's baseball program before transferring to Holmes.

And yes I know Holmes isn't a baseball powerhouse.
