Derrick Brooks to mentor Winston, if he becomes a Buc.

Featured Replies

You couldn't pick a better mentor.

During a recent visit to PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio, Hall of Fame Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks made the case for the Buccaneers to use the first pick in the 2015 draft on former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. Appearing on Monday’s PFT Live, Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune said that, if the Bucs do what Brooks has suggested, Brooks will have a key role in helping Winston adjust to the NFL.

“I think if Winston’s the pick — and I think he will be — I think Brooks will play a role in trying to corral this kid, mature him, even bring him into his home, if necessary,” Kaufman said. “That’s how much Brooks cares about FSU, about the Bucs, and seeing this franchise get relevant.”

Music to my ears.

Don't mess this up, Tampa!!!! Take Jameis!!!!!

I feel sorry for the Bucs.

Care to elaborate?

Seems like Tampa couldn't have found a better mentor and I hope Jameis heeds the advice he is given.

The Bucs will be awesome if they draft Winston!

I think they feel obligated to take Winston and I believe it is a huge gamble that Tampa can't afford to be wrong on.

Hater.

Not at all, I wish every team had a Tom Brady or Andrew Luck type QB. Then we could figure out who else could play and coach.

So here is to hoping Winston is all that and a bag of chips in the NFL.

Mentor is code for babysitter.

Who would you draft if you were Tampa's GM?

How so? Tampa has sucked since they let Gruden go. Winston being a failure means they still suck. What would bother me is if Winston proves to be a great quarterback and they still suck.

Quarterback is only part of the problem in Tampa.

I haven't looked at it but if there was a sure thing QB that is what I would do, otherwise I would look to trade down.

I feel like Jameis' off field exploits are overblown and if not for that I think he would be called a sure thing. He's physically gifted, a winner and reports say he has an above average football IQ. All folks seem to be hung up on is his maturity and off the field life. I don't think his off the field stuff is a big deal but I am biased and a Jameis apologist.

I hope you are right PP.

The more good QBs in the NFL the better.
