E.K.U. Terroristic threat for next Wednesday?

Featured Replies

Just saw this on Facebook so I guess this upcoming Wednesday is what it is talking about. The daughter of a good friend of my wife posted it on her Facebook page. It is also on E.K.U. Facebook page.

This email is being sent on behalf of President Michael Benson.

In the courses I have taught on international relations, some of my lectures have focused on the primary function

and fundamental responsibility that falls to each state throughout the history of the world.

Unless a nation-state

can secure its borders and ensure protection of its citizens, everything else is secondary and, in effect, rendered

much less consequential.

That is to say, if a citizen cannot rely on the state to protect his or her life, what good is

infrastructure, or schools, or due process, or health care, or civil liberties, or anything else?

The same could be said for colleges and universities.

Our primary role is to create a safe learning environment

where faculty can teach, staff can serve, and students can achieve their educational, personal, and professional

goals.

Earlier this week, we discovered some lettering on the back of a bathroom stall in the Combs Building.

The words

written were threatening and have put all of us in a heightened state of alert and concern.

To my knowledge, this

is the first time such an episode has occurred at Eastern Kentucky University

Special to the Register

Eastern Kentucky University students, faculty and staff will be free to skip their normal routines Wednesday, the day that a cryptic message written on a stall of a campus restroom threatened gun violence.

However, all will be required to inform teachers or supervisors in advance of their intentions.

The school on Friday released the threatening message’s content, “Bringing gun to here. 2-11-15. Dead students.”

The threat is being taken seriously, EKU President Michael Benson said Friday in a statement released to the campus.

EKU prepares for Wednesday threat - Richmond Register: News

My first thought is that someone has a test scheduled for Wednesday. However, it has to be taken seriously. Sorry that the EKU family has to go through something like that.

That is just crazy. Really sad that the entire EKU community will be affected by this. But I agree that you cannot take those words lightly.

......insert poorly timed Baker/Barker joke here. :sssh:

Being a parent this is scary hopefully this is a bad joke. I know a parent that has a kid at UK and when UK was on lock down for the 4 football players with guns incident the parent was on a vacation freaking out and ruined their very expensive vacation.

The fact that you posted this says everything anyone needs to know about you my friend!

Really? Listen, I have a daughter at UK right now and when the lockdown happened, I was none too happy! Extremely upset as a parent. But this was fairly quickly resolved and we found out pretty quick what happened. I think ruining an "expensive vacation" is a bit over the top, don't you think. I see it as another agenda posting. Ruined expensive vacation! C'mon! Bahahahaha!

I have a child at EKU. Here is what the word is as of late last week.

First thinking was as above. But it seems there is concern that this is more thought out and planned than a silly stunt. So this is a big topic on campus. Certainly students, faculty and administration are not ignoring.
