February 5, 201511 yr All this talk about recruiting........doesn't anyone ever consider that a good coach can "coach the kids up" over their 4-5 year career, including establishing a true team culture? I think that that aspect of coaching is too often overlooked.

They can't afford to take a flyer on a borderline instate kid.

The question is then, did UL actually go after any instate kids hard? It is one thing if they did and the kids just chose another school, it's entirely different if they didn't target any KY kids.

Also, this doesn't mean UL didn't recruit any of the players, maybe they chose other places. Would it be nice for UL/UK to sign kids from the state every year, absolutely but it's not like this state is busting at the seems with players. Did I really just try to justify something Petrino did?

What recruits should have been replaced by an in-state kid? I'm not a recruiter so I don't follow who is who around the state, yet I find it hard to believe no one in the state is DI caliber. It's one thing if they targeted some kids but they went elsewhere and if they didn't go after anyone from the state. I also found it distrubing that Petrino pulled an offer from a kid just 48 hours before signing day. The kids school has now banned Petrino and any other UofL coach from their high school in So. Carolina which I think is great. I understand these things can happen, but to wait until 48 hours before signing day is un called for. Petrino continues to dig his own grave deeper and deeper.

One of the reasons KY may produce few DI athletes could be because the in state schools like UL doesn't recruit the state very well. There are DI athletes throughout the state and as I said I would feel differently if they actually recruited some but those kids chose to go elsewhere. I asked that question and by your response I take it they didn't recruit any. That is a shame, sorry that you disagree but we just feel differently. Seems plenty of other DI schools from out of state recruited KY kids, I guess UL just feels they are too good to do that also. It's not like UL has a great history of winning in college football or anything close to that.

FIFTEEN of those kids signed with WKU, so they took most of the in-state talent this year. Six more went to UK. And Jalen Washington from Frankfort is going to Louisville, just FYI.

There are kids in the state who are playing DI ball, so why didn't UL recruit any of them? I asked if they did and with the lack of an answer yes tells me they didn't. You want specific names, I will go and pull them from the HS recruiting thread. I can start with Beau Hoge. BYU thinks he is DI player, why didn't UL recruit him? Here are some others Elijah Sindelar Eli Brown Devon Quincy Aldwin Jackson Mason Wolfe Damien Harris Just to name a few. Again, if they recruited them but the kids chose to go elsewhere then that is great, the fact that they didn't even recruit them is the problem.
