People weren't patient with Coach Harp his last few years, and they aren't doing the same with Clay. It's wrong.

 

Give him and the boys some time. Rome has not fallen & I don't expect it to.

Every team that had a running game gave Danville problems. Boyle, Frankfort, Garrard, Somerset, LCA, Russell, Prestonsburg, Corbin, all these teams had a running back or two that ran for 100 yards or more. At some point its gotta be the coaching!

 

I can't respect a guys opinion who starts out saying the talent is down, then says the players don't want to play and the parents and principal are soft, then ends by saying at some point its gotta be the coaching! No at some point it doesn't HAVE to be the coaching.

DB wise...Brandon Baker, Buddy Trumbo, Ronnie Hawkins, Jeffrey Guest (along with others I just named above who were at this spot, too).

 

Danville still has some good talent and speed, but how many of the guys out there right now would take any spots of those I just named? And I'm leaving off a whole sleeeeewwww of other guys who ran through there from about 87-06. An awful lot of guys I just named went onto the next levels and had great careers at their respected levels of college football.

 

I can understand frustration, it's part of being fans. It's what all of us do, and I can assure you nobody is more frustrated than the players and coaches. But, at some point.....when talking old days, you have to sit down and make an honest comparison.

 

First off thats an awesome list and like you said it could be added onto. I agree with pretty much all of waht youve said. No I do not think there is that type of talent at Danville now or anywhere in this area period. The point I was trying to make was that there are lots of kids with talent not playing. Would they make teams comparable to these guys? Not a chance. However it would make us a lot better in 2A. I see them up there weekly and they just wont play. As far as coaching is concerned I feel comfortable saying I probably know more than most about whats going on there and I dont put much blame on them at all. They are doing what they can and then some. The weight room is totally renovated and they use it all the time. As you said people arent giving Clay the same as they did Harp and its not right. Do I agree with every play he called? No but thats any fan but I also know hes a whole lot better than I ever would be. Harp stayed a little too long thats obvious. Clay is involved all the way down to the youngest youth league team and wants to get this program back where it can be. I doubt it ever will get back to where it was and thats just the facts. Yes it is true we used to have administrators that were 100% behind the athletics and now they are not which does hurt. Those days were awesome though and did it all without controversy or any of that mess. Just pure talent that went out and won.

A pretty good one, huh? Amazing fact is there is a whole 'nother list about as long, or longer, who were more than just good players during that time.

 

But, that's been my question the last few years for those who are unhappy with the production at Danville? "Are any of the guys out there right now....could any of them take their spots?" No? Well, ok then.....don't expect the same.

 

I've been told by several of the Danville faithful that over the past several years that the talent is walking the halls and not playing football anymore if this is the case it's up to the coaching staff to generate interest in the football program again.

I was thinking that a large amount of kids at Danville are playing multiple sports nowadays, including football. I could be misinformed but when I see the basketball team a nice amount of them play football as well.

 

I'd need to know who isn't playing that could immediately help the team and I can't think of anyone at Danville that could do that.

I could be wrong but I think it has alot to do with baseball. So many good athletes at Danville are only playing baseball.

People still think the old Harrodsburg kids are walking to halls at Mercer too but they aren't. Demographics have shifted as more and more people move to Lexington.

Yes there are some up there that could help. Also there are always a few that play just one sport which also didn't happen much in the past. Not making any excuses just stating facts. As far as their names I see them in the halls or being real athletic in gym class but if they don't play a sport or aren't on the academic or forensics team chances of me knowing them are slim but it doesn't take an NFL scout to see if a kid could help out your team or not.Still though that's just one thing that could help out especially in 2A and other schools closer to our size. As far as compared to past talent well no not even close and that could be said for a lot of sports at a lot of schools.

Jared Southerland plays golf and he is a stud at golf. He should be playing golf. Other than that I'd love to know who can help the team that isn't playing. At what position? Are we talking linemen?
