BGP Beer Connoisseurs: What Did You Think Of Budweiser's Super Bowl Add?

Featured Replies

Why can't somebody be both? I have been for a long time...

Of course, now that I know occasionally smelling the sweet aroma of a coffee porter makes me a terrible hipster butt hat, maybe I won't be allowed to have Budweiser anymore.

Same here. I keep the fridge stocked with a fair amount of both. And like Lipton, if I'm out watching games and eating wings I'm probably going for Coors, but if I'm out somewhere else I like to dive into the micro-brews.

I've been going to bars for a good chunk of my adult life and can't remember ever giving a baker's fart what anyone else orders.

I'd argue that if you do both you aren't a beer snob.

There are plenty of people that will outright refuse to drink anything you can buy in a Kroger. I've got multiple friends that are that way. That's a beer snob.

I think they were going more after the people who mock others for choose a Domestic light beer. We all have those friends who can't grasp why you would order a Coors Light instead of a Dogfish head. Those people are annoying.

I love microbrews and Domestic Pilsner/Light beers. Microbrews are for sipping and Domestics are for drinking is the way I look at it.

Agreed you can't drink domestic lights and still be a beer snob.

I think Getslow fits in the category such as myself , we enjoy both. A beer snob judges you for choosing anything but a microbrew.

Exactly.

We'll go to a bar and a couple of my friends will give me crap for getting Bud Light or Coors. Something along the lines of, "Why are you drinking that garbage, or why don't you drink a real beer?". My choice is always based on one simple principle. If I'm planning on drinking 2-3, maybe even 4, I'll go with a good craft beer. If I've got my sights set on putting down a 12 pack, it's Bud Light or Coors. :lol2:

We follow the same protocol.:lol2:

I'm probably a beer snob but I don't give a damn what anyone else drinks.

If I plan to pound a lot of beer I typically go for a session ale like Founders All Day IPA. I've just got to the point where I don't enjoy the taste of mass-produced domestic lights.

If they were going after those people, they should've done a better job of it. What they actually did was talk about how they made a beer that wasn't for "fussing over" despite the fact that they explicitly talk up their tradition of beechwood aging and the distinct golden color of a cold Budweiser.

It was just a dumb ad and I think it made Budweiser look foolish and vindictive about their lost market share in the eyes of a lot of us who previously drank their product and the products of numerous other breweries. What the ad did was reinforce the opinions of people who drank a lot of Bud and turn off a lot of us who enjoy all sorts of beers.

That thing sure didn't make me want to buy any more Budweiser.

Beer Snobs, Coffee Snobs, Music Snobs

I'm a Snob Snob, I don't like Snobs!

Drink what you like and don't worry about what others say or think :thumb:

Serious question...Do commercials ever really make anyone want to buy the product their promoting? Can't remember ever deciding "Oh, I need that!" after seeing a commercial.

I disagree. They went after their target audience. The routine Bud heavy drinker isn't normally going to be a beer snob and probably gets annoyed by them. Loyal Bud heavy drinkers probably cheered at this commercial. I'm not a Bud heavy drinker but I did find it ammusing.

If someone was offended by it , they probably need to loosen up.

Yes, if they didn't work they wouldn't spend millions of dollars on them. A lot of research goes into marketing and commercials. Peoples spending habits are influenced even if they don't realize it.

No, advertising is designed to be memorable so that their brand name sticks into your mind. Now I associate that brand with a dumb commercial that makes me not want to support them. Consequence of poor marketing.

I'd say if someone was offended by it, they're the people it was talking about.
