Johnson Central will likely have 5. Last year they had Shane Hall (1k) Braxton Blair (1K) Kyle Gullett (hit 1K this year) Dalton Adkins (about to hit 1K this year) and Mason Blair (near 500 and only a SOPH). That would give them 5 on the varsity roster in a single year. If Truman Salyer had not gone down to injury he would have easily scored 1K for the Golden Eagles as well.

I take it as them having 1000 points at the time they were playing together, not that they amassed it later on in their career.

If the requirments are a player must have scored 1K points, then Johnson Central will likely have 3 this year and if Salyer had been able to play it would likely have been 4. I believe Lawrence County has 4 currenlty on the team that have 1K and might have 5 on the team next season.

 

Here is a question though, does multiple 1K scorers = team success? Are they connected or does 1K points just mean you played alot of games? When i played it was rare if a SOPH got varsity minutes and unheard of if a Freshman got any (you had to be really good to play young with some of the old schools coaches back then). Therefore if a kid got 1K points, he likely did it in 2-2.5 full seasons of play and meant he was a great scorer. Another point is now you can schedule 30 games and 20 years ago you could only schedule 24 with single elimination tournaments counting as 1 game regardless of how far you advanced. Point: more games today, kids playing younger today. Question: Has is watered down what scoring 1K means compared to people who accomplished the same feat years prior? Personally I think it is still a great accomplishment, just wanted to see what the rest of BGP thought.

Last year’s Fleming Co squad that made their second trip to Rupp had 4: Darion Burns, Troy Steward, Austin Crisp, and Brady Saunders. Darion and Troy are now playing at Georgetown and Austin is playing at Alice Lloyd.
