CovCath 5 Beechwood 1

Lets put this in to perspective. You have Pat Muth running to first base. and he hits a ball that the 3rd Baseman dove and missed and even if AJ would have made a back hand stab, do you really think he could have made the play at first. Probably not it was so deep in the hole Pat probably couldnt have made it and he has one of the strongest SS arms in the Region. Also any play like that where a player makes a running or diving effort at and they miss it, if the runner would have been safe on the throw, than it is a hit.

It went thru his legs....but if you feel Pat would have beat it out, then its a hit...end of story

Sorry Champs05, from my seat it was a error. I have no ax to grind as I know only one player from either team and he didn't even play in the game. The other fans who sat near me all thought he should have made the play and felt sorry for the pitcher...... Maybe I am excepting too much from the kid, but if CovCath wants to play past the District, then the shortstop had better make that play, and I not sure it was as hard as you are making it out to be.....Again just my opinion, and remember, I have no ax to grind.....Just went to see someone hopefully play in the game, and wanted to see the two best teams play a game like last years great game at St. Henry...

You are talking about 2 different plays. First you were talking about the backhand. Now your talking about the one in the 1st inning.....which is it?

Muth is the 2 hitter. He hit thru the 6 holes legs, and eventually scored the only Beechwood run in the first inning. The backhand did not cost a run.

Ok well the back hand was a play that many kids might have stopped. But not make the play. And do you know if CCH's 2nd basemen was back for this game!?

No, Conner Larkin did not play, they had a #3 in his spot hitting 8th. So CCH was missing out on some speed at the front of the lineup as well last night.

If you can't adjust your swing to a pitcher who doesn't throw with any heat at all, then how in the heck will you be able to adjust if that pitcher can bring some heat as well a curve/slider/changeup.....

Those who have faced Greg Maddux have wondered the same for years...

Actually it was a #7, Nathan Hansel, senior.

Larkin is taking a week or so off after having his concussion, at Coach Krump's request. He had a similiar injury last year.

There are very few Greg Maddux throughout the history of Major League Baseball. From the Reds, no one comes even close to Maddux, who threw junk pitches and could paint either side of the plate anytime he wanted, but one comes to mind who pitched with junk with a little or no speed, and that was someone (who I happened to catch), was Ross Grimsley, and trust me, his curve/slider fell off the table.....the young CovCath pitcher curve/slider seems to hang a lot, and didn't have that big drop. He did adjust his speed a lot, and he did move the ball around, to his credit. He remind me of a former CovCath Pitcher whose Sons played Basketball at CovCath and who now attend Miami of Florida and Ivy League Penn...... He could throw a curve/slider but couldn't break a pane of glass with his fast ball, and if you batted against him you would have sworn that he was going to blow the ball past you because of his size....:D
